Hello there. Recently returned to the game and leveled a rogue to 60. So with dragonflight coming soon I’m just wanting to get comfortable with the class and was curious what the best newby spec would be to do random battlegrounds and just have fun and learn. As well as a good covenant for said spec. Any advice and opinions are welcome! Thanks in advance!
Assassination is a fairly friendly spec. It’s damage is all in burst windows but the general PvP rotation is very easy.

Subtlety is the easiest Rogue spec, especially if you pick up only passive talents. It also has the very nice ability to spam Cheap Shot often by using those two charges of Shadow Dance. Should let you easily do well in PvP without much of a learning curve.
I’d say Assassination is the worst choice for a returning player. It has the most complex rotation (possibly of all classes) and is… arguably bloated. Switch to it when you get bored of Sub.

subs damage right now is abysmal when compared to other specs unfortunately. did the 5% make any difference? i want to go back to sub but its not performing.
Bah, I had no idea. I’ll be honest I haven’t gotten the chance to check out the damage of the specs since pre-patch. I’ve only had a chance to try out the rotation on training dummies.
Maybe 5% is all it takes to fix Sub’s damage then…?
Idk, thats why i was asking you lol. Its sad out here for sub. Sub was great in SL but since 10.0 its fallen off hard, mainly due to the other spec trees are better and you basically get everything a sub rogue gets if you want it. sub just gets an extra SD and an extra Vanish but these 8k eviscerates arent cutting it when you got 100k plus health to whittle down
So do you think it would be better for me just to bite the bullet with assassination and just throw myself to the wolves? Where does outlaw stand in pvp compared to sin? And is the learning curve as steep?
I’ve read a lot people really like Outlaw at the moment. There’s no reason not to try all three specs.

Maybe I will stick to outlaw then. That’s the spec I used to level with but just wasn’t sure how well it works for just casual pvp. I know covenant abilities and conduits will be gone soon but for the time being is there one that would shine more than others?
I believe convenant abilities are only working in Shadowlands zones as of patch 10.0 So, they are useless for BG’s. I believe legendaries and tier sets have also be disabled. So, no point in putting effort into those things.

Well that makes it easier! I was unaware that they were disabled in battlegrounds and pvp. Thank you!
Covenant abilities themselves work but none of the Conduits do so they are really weak.
