Rogue newbie

I love rogue, but I can’t play/improve with the class. I’ve tried changing class, but I always end up trying again. But I always get frustrated with my poor performance. I know that rogue is a difficult class and that you are punished when you miss a simple button in the rotation. What advice would you give to someone who loves the class, wants to improve but can’t?

Get really comfortable with your keybindings.

I’m in the same boat. I’m also learning how to play the rogue class. I can see myself having fun with the rogue in both PvP and pve.

I just recently downloaded Hekili, and it has helped getting an idea on the rotation. Good luck!

Try adjusting your UI, whether with the base settings or with addons. Like I use SliceAdmiral in order to have my energy and combo points right in the middle of my screen above my action buttons, makes it much easier to keep track of what I need to do next. Similar for tracking bleeds and Slice N Dice, I use weak auras that show a yellow symbol when it’s ideal to refresh them and red if it’s missing entirely.

A big thing that can help is keybinds. Try using all the keys around wasd for something. Specifically q,e,f,z and r.

Using a Razer Naga or Corsair Scimatar helps a ton. Rogue feels like the only class where I need to combine both mouse keybinds and the keyboard to play well.

If you’re outlaw, use the WA add-on for RTB. It is just not worth the mental focus to keep track of that manually.
Try to be aware of keeping your downtime as minimal as possible and blast training dummies until your rotation feels like a muscle reflex. I’ve genuinely lost hours at a time on training dummies before… :exploding_head:

I’ve had bad luck with Razer mice developing the left click spam problem, though I think the newest Naga Trinity uses optical switches, which should obviate that issue. Kinda pricey, though.

I switched to a Steelseries Prime Mini. Had to get used to fewer buttons and learning some new keybinds, but I like it so far.

Really? That’s worrying… Mine’s pretty good so far though. Used to love the Corsair Scimitar but both pro and elite had the messed up middle mouse button after barely any time, so my Naga is definitely outlasting both of those so far at least.

@OP

I hesitate to say this, but I will because our rotations have become more complex over the years.

A rotation helper such as Hero Rotation or Hekili will help with timing and tracking everything we have to juggle. If you use a rotation helper, PLEASE take the time to learn and understand WHY the helper is doing what it does. It’s important to understand how the various abilities interact with each other. In addition, a few Weak Auras to help track DoT’s, Combo Points, Buffs and Debuffs are essential.

Also, take the time to customize your UI. Having the information you need right in front of you is critical.
