Rogue missing strikes while leveling

Just started a rogue and he’s lvl13. Have sword main-hand and dagger off-hand. Both sword and dagger skills are within a couple pts of max. Curious why so many swings are misses. Is this a common thing while leveling? I am new to the rogue life

PS - the mobs im fighting are between lvl 10 and 13.

Its common but stick to mobs/quest that are green to reduce the times it happens.

You’re miss chance against and equal level mob is something like 22%. It’ll get better when you get the 5% hit (assuming you’re leveling combat). It’ll get even better once you can actually get gear with +hit on it.

That’s normal. Especially brutal is the Eviscerate miss when you have to sit there for two ticks of energy to do anything afterwards. Or even worse, Kidney Shot which has a cooldown.

Get used to it till you hit cap.

Offhand strikes are going to miss alot, it’s jsut nature of the beast, asto your main hand attacks getting parried/dodged/missing thats something that can be combatted with hit rating which shows up much later in the game.

While dual wielding, your auto-attacks miss an additional 19% of the time.

As others said, you’ll miss a lot before cap.
And some mobs have a hidden buffs to effect miss/dodge chance against attacks.
To counter this you’ll need to spec into hit. And even then you will still miss, it just won’t be as noticeable as it is now so long as the mob isn’t more than 3 levels higher.

If you want a technical answer, here ya go.

Mobs have defense and weapon skills just like players, but they are always (mob level * 5). The difference between the attackers weapon skill and the defenders defense skill is what determines your chance to hit. Every 1 point of difference is a +0.04% chance to be missed, dodge, block, and parry.

So let’s say you are level 13 with 60 weapon skill (5 points away from your max of 65 to account for leveling). Now you attack a mob that’s level 15, who has a defense skill of 75. In addition to your base 19% chance to miss while duel wielding, you will fail to hand an attack an additional 1.6% of the time. This can be very noticeable with yellow attacks, which only have a base 7% chance to miss.

Conversely, if you attack a level 11 mob, your chance to hit will increase by 1.6%

Dual wield base chance to miss is something silly like 26% for auto attacks.

Your chance to miss with special attacks is also rather painful, but the 5 point hit chance in the combat tree is worth the points, and drastically reduces your chance to miss with special attacks.

All of that miss chance also is not including the NPC’s ability to dodge, block or parry your attack. The higher the NPC’s level is vs yours the higher the chance you will not land an attack vs that target.

For players. For mobs, defense skill is far more powerful. It’s a full .1% more of each avoidance, not .04%. (With block being weird though)
