Rogue feels weak and unfun while leveling

I made a Zandalari rogue and compared to the other melee dps I play (paladin, shaman, monk, warrior, DK - basically, all of them), it feels very weak and unfun.

  1. Take tons of damage
  2. Very weak heal. Actually have to use food sometimes in 2019
  3. Damage doesn’t seem great. Roll the bones is annoying to have to recast. Having to stealth before attacking is annoying. Gameplay is terrible. Cast sinister strike until you have 5 combo points, use dispatch, rinse repeat for the most part.

Does it get better? Is assassin better? I’m planning to switch to assassin but I heard Outlaw is better for leveling. Right now I’m wishing I made a hunter instead.

Don’t forget the horrible energy regeneration until around level 45 or so…

Try leveling as sub. You will hate life till mid 60’s. At least outside of stealth, outlaw has dps.

Early Rogue leveling is annoying because you lack certain talents and abilities that fill in the bulk of the gameplay.

It’s still terrible at level 86. Can’t believe I forgot to mention that. Cast a few abilities for 25% mob dmg then you’re energy starved.

Yep, around 2-3 damage fillers like Sinister Strike and stuff and BAM. Energy Starved.

Seems like rogue is either pathetic or OP. I remember leveling mine back in Cata and I absolutely loved it.

I love rogue, been my main for a while. It gets better with everything unlocked, it’s actually really fun even. Leveling is… slow lol

Yep they play like garbage till 62ish. I mean after that its not much more fun but atleast you get bonus combo points and energy returns when you do your abilitys. You also get AoE which makes 5 mans not totally awful anymore.

I prefer assassin.

Energy refund if target dies with rupture.

Dot dot dot, kite/tab target. Burst dmg out of stealth and if you get shoulder legendary in legion you kill everything in 1-2 seconds (bonus points for aoe cape and FoK talents one shotting every mob you can gather)

Stealthing/sapping through quests if you don’t feel like fighting helps too.

Poisons are great for dps and utility, there’s even leeching poison for self heals.

It’s s bit tougher than a lot of melee specs but you get plenty of tools and great cds you should use on CD.

Being a max level rogue has a huge payoff though. Almost always wanted.

Level outlaw for speed then switch

Maybe rogue just isn’t for you? If Paladin, shaman, monk, warrior, and DK are working for you… seems like it’s ok if one class isn’t.

I made a Zandalari and didn’t want to make a duplicate of another class I already play. So my options were rogue, feral, or ranged. And I don’t really like ranged although hunter might be more fun.

I do pvp though so I think it will at least be fun for that at max lvl.

Hunter is my vote, instead. It’s a strong class to solo with, and you can go surv if you get tired of ranged. BM is pretty fun tho.

outlaw is the meta spec that you should be playing.

Crimson vial, leaching poison. Profit.

I never struggled.

If you think rogue is boring leveling up try a hunter. One feels like you can’t do anything, the other feels like you don’t have to do anything. Both bad in their own ways.

i leveled this character as sub rogue , it took a good month. It felt terrible as well.

My first real character was a rogue.
After leveling it in legion I tried other classes.
Literally EVERY other class is more fun and has more advantage.
Assassin rogue can do some serious damage but you’d better hope you kill your opponent quickly…and that he doesnt have much healing ability himself, or once you run out of steam he’s going to just heal himself and pound you into a puddle.

Id never play rogue again. Every other class is better.

Id go with that feeling.
Hunter is far better in that with rogue youre going to be beat down personally and have to hope your heals are enough.
With hunter you have a pet who is taking the brunt of the assault so you can hopefully not take most of the damage being dealt.
Self healing sucks with hunter too but its less likely to be needed as much as it is with rogue once the fight begins.
