Rogue build question: Combat or Sub?

I’m wanting a DoT friendly build, I know Combat is the way to go but I really want to focus on poisons and Rupture while throwing in Ambushes and Backstabs

To that end I’m focused at 34 on the Assassin tree, not sure if I’m going all the way down to Vigor so I can put a point in Blade Flurry or Hemo, I’m planning on focusing on Daggers

Question is, which one should I go for? I get more Backstab crit, and 5% more crit with Daggers with Blade Flurry in Combat, but I get more base Backstab damage, more Rupture damage (and armor pen) and Hemo which will go really well with Daggers in Sub

Know it’s really up to me but figured I’d throw it out there publicly to maybe get some extra insight

That’s the beauty of classic, there really is several different ways you could spec, with little variations of each one. All depends on your playstyle and what you find yourself doing.
As a pvper, i tend to favour the sub tree a lot. Bleeds are great but also cant control fights easily due to not being able to blind.
Respecs do get expensive but i say just try one out and see how it goes. Then try another spec.
Find out what works for you and your playstyle.

It’s true, and I’m seeing pretty good benefits with both

I’m leaning sub since dots can’t crit it seems, so the extra flat damage seems more valuable (and I’ll still have good Crit thanks to Malice)

Sub/assassin is the go to for PvP. Although you can use it in PVE your dps will gimp a lot compared to combat/assassin. In end game you’ll notice a big drop off to your dps if you are still speced for sub/assassin compared to a combat rogue. Leveling also is a more of challenge as a sub/assassin build but it’s nice to have for PvP if you are on a PvP server because you can just wreck a lot of people. So it’s ultimately your choice.

I’m leveling as combat swords. It works well enough for both solo and group PvE as well as PvP.

From studying the topic at hand it appears that swords with combat are superior for a majority of the game mainly do to versatility and low risk. By this I mean power leveling out in the world is superior for combat rogue so if your goal is to quest to 60 it’s the fastest route. The low risk means that even though dps wise you are outdone by dagger rogues in dungeons and raids the chances of you surpassing them are there mainly because swords drop like hot cakes while a good dagger is hard to come by even harder to win rolls for the rare occasion a good dagger drops vs other rogues. You can get some quest daggers as well so really it’s up to you which path you take but the easiest path will always be combat

Yeh, know Sword Combat is the best go-to overall but I really just like dotting people up and then if need be running away as they bleed out with poison

No idea how good it is in PvE (especially if mobs are immune to poison and/or bleed) but hey going Sub as the second spec seems fun, I’ll give that a shot
