Anyone else think it’s strange that a robot would be doing magic?
No more odd then “shut up Meg” orcs and green quasimodo orcs picking up a wrench and using it to build things with.
No not at all…
Really? It’s strange to me to see fire building from robot hands.
I mean not really science can produce all the things that mages cast. To the point they really should be able to be paladin.
Mechagnomes are cyborgs, not robots. They still have organic components, so no it doesn’t seem odd to me.
They aren’t fully robots. They’re as alive as any other playable race and are therefore just as capable of manipulating arcane energies. That being said, I RP my mecha mage as using endergonic reactions from various implants and augments to produce her flames. It’s much cooler, so to speak.
pedant mode activated
Mechagnomes are not robots. Robots have been fully mechanized. Mechagnomes are partly mechanized, partly biological.
pedant mode deactivated
Remaining biological parts meet minimum requirements for spellcasting in spellcasting mechagnomes.
Technically, any race with an earring or piercing is part mechanized. They have no trouble with magic, so why should Mechagnomes?
Just as strange as a light-forged draenei death knight or a night elf mage
Having a mechanical body is not the same thing as wearing an earring.
If you think about it, it’s just the manipulation of energy.
With a race like this I feel like it would have been a perfect opportunity to add a class that utilizes both magic and technology.
Arcane Magic is science in the Warcraft Universe.
They still have brains and speech capability. They aren’t fully robotic.
Spells are spoken in this game, you just don’t hear that. The proof of that is in the counter to spells being “interrupts” or “silences”
“Magic” is a fundamental and “natural” part of the World of WarCraft universe. It can be studied like a science, occurs “naturally”, and is woven into the fabrics of basically everything. Really, the line between what’s “magic” and what’s “nature” (or natural physics thus “non-magic” technology) is at best blurry, at worst wholly meaningless.
Honestly, the Mechagnomes are probably tapping into “technology” that’s at least tangential to the original Titanic “magics” which created them in the first place. Because at high enough levels in this universe (Titanic, Demonic, Naaru), magic and technology act in tandem.
The Mechagnomes being able to use Arcane Magics, which are largely based off the notions of order and thus slot perfectly into their wheelhouse (figuratively or literally depending on the mechagnome), only makes sense. They’re probably far more methodical and scientific about it than “mystical” or “spiritual” about it as some mages from other origins would, but it’s by no means weird.
In a world where a skinny 1.60m elf can take hits better than a 200kg bull man. No, a robot mage isn’t farfetched.
titans are robots
Robot Mage is more natural than Troll Mage.
The Robots were created by the Titans. Titans are pretty much made of Arcane Magic.
Nope and follow that up why the can not be druids is still puzzling me.
