F for respects
2012-2019 rest in peace you little bugger.
I hate that thing. I hope it rests in chaos.

Another spam thread. Just what we need.
I still think it is a pointlessly silly thing to do but whatever. Blizz will do whatever they want as per usual.
What I want to know is what they are renaming the mount? Because it sure seems as adding insult to injury that they keep the name since it is now a mount that nobody will use on water. And I spent so much effort to get it…
I don’t get it, it’s not going away, just equip the mount shoes and it’s like nothing has changed.
Not spamming troll.
I mean, yeah, it’s losing its niche, which is too bad, but at the same time, if you’re really a fan of the water strider and using it to water walk when you’re mounted, you can always just equip the new boot things, and just mount on it when you’d always have mounted on it.
Literally nothing changes. You can still use barding, ostensibly (since they said that class abilities will still work), and carry a goblin glider in case you fall off something. I’m not saying this is the best plan, because it’s not; if they want all mounts to be more customizable, they should just add the mount equipment slot and, like is the case with the mech mount and its herbing ability, just leave the water strider untouched but also immune to any additional mount equipment that you add.
That way, people who want to ride the strider for water walking only still can, and can use the equipment to make their other mounts do different things. Objectively, the most useful ability out of all the options (especially once flying is enabled) is the water walking, so I don’t see why most people wouldn’t just equip the boots anyway given the choice and ride whatever they like.
The thing is handy for alts that don’t have water walking, sure. But I’ve never liked the look of it (though the mountspecial animation is a hoot), and I’ve only ever ridden it when I was on an alt that needed to cross water that didn’t have a potion or class ability. Other than that, it’s a mount I’ve used only slightly more than the ungainly Riddler’s Mind Worm, which is probably the ugliest mount I’ve obtained.
Yeah… this was pretty extraneous when you get down to it. But then again, so is, more or less, the whole argument in the first place. Even if the water strider isn’t unique in power anymore once 8.2 hits, it’s still available for anyone who obtained it, and can still be functionally identical to the way things are now if you just want to ride it and only it across the water for old times’ sake. Or you can give up the utility of water walking mounts entirely (unless you’ve a potion) in favor of something that’s also available via consumables.
In hindsight, I’ve just realized that the entire point of this is to give players a choice of what is usually a consumable as a constant effect. Which, I think, is a good thing. Like I said, I never hardly rode the thing except on alts anyway, because I’m a shaman and I have Water Walking macroed on my mount button. Moreover, that means I’m used to riding literally anything across the water that I please. So maybe I don’t have the best objective opinion on the situation.
They need to make us a giant mount flyswatter equipment so I can smush that fugly bug mount. I got my money’s worth out of it for like 7 years. That’s enough - time for new water walker that don’t make that creepy chirp noise.
Respect? Oh no I’ll throw it into the Nether myself. Hated that bug since day one.
A little bit of a harsh retort; the basic idea that Dreta meant to impart is that there are already easily three threads pretty near the top of GD about this, including a megathread with Blue replies. There wasn’t really a reason to make a new one complaining about the same thing when it’s already been illustrated that many others share your point of view, and that CMs are actively reading and participating in the other threads about the subject.
from this we can probably anticipate the next QoL benefit that will be taken away and placed behind a new grind
every reward and QoL benefit, no matter how meager or previously grinded for, can be taken away and placed behind a boring grind
all to increase time /played for lack of new content
