While I personally think it’s a terrible idea, there is precedent for this.
This is one of the biggest reasons people hate and distrust police.
It would be one thing if every time a power-tripping idiot killed someone, they lost their job and future ability to serve as law enforcement but… it’s pretty typical for them to get a slap on the wrist and either return to the same precinct or one in the next town over.
If someone beat the s[tuffing] out of you, and then individuals you’re meant to trust actively worked to make sure that person faced no consequences… surely you’d be furious about it, right?
There really needs to be external (i.e. as little affiliation with the state/county law enforcement and judicial system as possible) reviews for these kinds of incidents, and actual punishments for those who abuse their place of authority. Same thing as any other government position.
It is extremely difficult to pull off. Trump is probably the most successful so far, although his success is limited because he can’t keep himself from posting crap on twitter.
Otherwise any other attempt has limited reach thanks to the inability to spread the messages to everyone. Only way to do that is to ironically use the media.
That is the most stupid statement I have ever read. You cant think that’s even remotely close to true.
Also? For all the people thinking there won’t be any cops in Minneapolis anymore, this change only gets rid of the city police. So go ahead and go break some laws there and see how well things turn out for you.
Well, at least they gave my uncle a clean death, as clean as multiple gun shot wounds can be, instead of choking him to death or shooting him in his sleep for example. It’s morbid, but my uncle wasn’t shot because he was white, and there’s a different kind of venom that goes into those kind of killings.
You’d have a fine point, if every person in America didn’t have the ability to call the police and ask for aid.
If the police only existed to protect the wealthy, then why aren’t they centralized around the wealthy?
I understand you’re repeating a common talking point, but it’s a bad one.
Anyone familiar with the issue knows that the USA has one of the most transparent law-abiding police forces in the world. In China they will arrest you without charges. In 3rd work countries you have to bribe them to do anything.
We have bad cops. Bad prosecutors. Bad judges. We don’t have a “systemic” problem. Look at Mexico and you’ll see what a corrupt system looks like.
It’s generally a good idea to be accurate when making a point. The definition of “rap sheet” is a record of police arrest.
They aren’t there to be nice, they are there to enforce the law.
Ah so if I have break in my house and the cop comes , it’s because I am the elite ?
I guess middle class is now elite .
No cops = no one to throw me in prison.
They can do that here as well. The police can arrest you merely because they think you’re breaking the law.
If I owned a house in Minneapolis I’d be selling immediately before property values started plummeting, just saying…
If it did go through it would just shift enforcement to county and state levels. Will still be plenty of cops around. Local sheriff would love this. Makes them waaaaaaaaay more powerful.
I watched the video and I said he was shoved.
Are they? Because they seem to be a military force that thinks its above the law.
Ah ok… they killed him in a much better way of killing people. Thanks for the clarification.
Police are there to protect and serve the community, not the other way around.
It’s a public servant job, you’re not guaranteed the right to be a police officer.
When police officers feel safe murdering a person while being recorded, you know it’s a problem.
This whole blue wall and cops protecting bad cops and mafia culture needs to end.
Why? There’s still the county and state police.
That’s why I said the cops lied about what happened.
