Idk, he’s Kel’Thuzad though
I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some weird twist where he bound his soul to a new phylactery or something
He’s just such an iconic warcraft villain idk if Blizz can actually throw him away forever

The fight has us going inside his phylactery and destroying his soul inside it. It would be very hard to bring him back from that.
I find it funny that all the rehashed Lore characters look like they did in life when everyone else changes into something else once they get to shadowlands. Drakka, Vash and Zandros should all be abominations/liches and Kael should be a little ghosty like all the other dammed souls.
He shouldn’t even be in the shadowlands, we never destroyed his phylactery in the living world!
That could be the plot twist
Maybe his death in Shadowlands is a way to come back in Azeroth
The current writers think they can throw Kel’thuzad away forever. They’ve already thrown Ursoc and Rezan away forever and went out of their way to write it so that Ysera is a permanent resident of the Shadowlands who can never return to Azeroth.
The writing this expansion is pretty ham-fisted in places, but of course BfA’s writing was really ham-fisted as well like how they decided that Azshara would expose Nazjatar to the surface, that C’thun and Yogg-Saron are truly dead for good, and decided to have N’zoth present for one patch before permanently throwing him away forever (and yes, I believe they’ve outright stated that N’zoth experienced “true death” and can never come back).
It wouldn’t at all surprise me if Kel’thuzad’s “true death” gets retconned sometime in the future, though.
They can always do time travel, alternate dimensions, a Shade or some kind of back-up contingency if they ever want to. The current writers can say he’s absolutely dead, but in this type of super hero comic book fiction, which is what World of Warcraft is, there is ALWAYS a way to bring someone back. Danuser can say whatever he likes he he’s not the “WoW God”, just someone temporarily sitting in the big chair. His time will come, and once it has, whoever succeeds him is free to do whatever they like. That’s just how the cookie crumbles.
Yes the jailer was a retcon. He was never mentioned in anyway at all. They literally created him to redeem Sylvannas in some way. Every single expansion they retcon something in the lore to fit the new expac and in this case, they retconned the frostmourne sword and lich king armor to not be that legion stole it but it was always the jailer’s plan.
Nathrezim got a gigantic retcon, as well.
Kel’thuzad’s character is a dude that got in to deep and was terrified of trying to disobey. He’s a coward, it makes perfect sense that once he came into contact with the jailer he would join his forces. Just like how scared he was when he met the Lich King for the first time.
I mean it does make sense?
?? Doesn’t make sense? Well, what can you expect from someone who doesn’t pay attention to the story…
Because if you did, you’d realize it makes perfect sense.
We should have been simping for Kel’Thuzad from the beginning. Then he’d have the plot protection that Sylvanas does right now.
Darnit… I should have been more overt with my Kel’thuzad love. I’m sorry, Skeletor 2.0. I have failed you.
It also helps that he’s a Lich, so all they have to do is blame necromancy and poof, he’s alive again
Side-note: I think it’s absurd he “actually died”, went to the Shadowlands, and just happened to go to the place where he could become a Lich again. He’s literally one of the few characters whose untimely resurrection would actually make 100% lore sense, he didn’t need to use the Shadowlands to be alive again. It’s actually kind of nonsense, it’s like “Spider-man” becoming a spider monster and then said spider monster being exposed to mutagen that causes him to take on a human form so that he can be a “human spider-man” when that’s what he was in the first place. They could have literally just said he had another phylactery or whatever that Sylvanas brought with her to the Shadowlands.
I like how they set up that phylactery thing and did nothing with it.
We never killed him, after the second time he hid his phylactery better. He would have just revived wherever he put it.
