Am I the only one that feels like it’s supremely unrewarding to spend 2 seconds planted to cast Frostbolt / Fireball / Arcane Blast just to do a pathetic amount of damage while hoping for a proc?
Everything I’ve experienced in SL thus far seems to punish hardcasting. “Don’t stand in fire” mechanics are more prevalent than I’ve ever seen.
Torghast and The Maw are especially bad for hardcasting. Eating while out of combat gets adds or chains spawned on you, and while in combat the floor is lava every other second forcing you to cancel-cast to move.
Kinda feels like WoW is turning into a Diablo-esque run-and-gun/hack-and-slash with a free-movable camera.
I think a bit more spell mobility wouldn’t hurt. It’s manageable for me, not quite on the level of BLM in Final Fantasy 14, but it can definitely get annoying and make me wish I were playing a fast melee class every now and again.
The skill of a caster comes from knowing when to move, how to move, where to move, what you can eat mechanically, and to still pump out constant hard cast spells.
That’s one thing I miss about MoP (along with about a thousand other things I miss) is having a filler spell on almost any caster that you could cast while moving.
casters casting while moving happened during mop… for some reason they removed all that the next expansion… the only class that can currently cast while moving is shaman and it’s only for a few seconds.
(not counting scorch and maybe some spell that I might be missing)
In the past sure. But now the whole “self root, to do damage” is a bit outdated with where the game seems to be headed. Encounters are getting more and more advanced where you really do need to be on the move at all times. Having classes that are forced to sit still to do damage are only holding these mechanics back too.
Then there’s PvP where you got people like Destro Locks unable to do much of anything. To the point where a lot of us are looking at more insta cast builds that Blizzard likely didn’t intend on us to use. If you think it’s normal for a class to just stop using half its abilities then I don’t know what to say.
The only fix to this is to just nerf all the melee classes who have insane gap closers and control over the fights but that’s too much work. I wouldn’t even ask for it either because then you’d just be downgrading half the classes in the game. It’s much easier to just buff up the snails and make them more mobile again. Just like MoP allowed. You know, back when everyone got to feel powerful and fun to play.
I mean FFS there is literally a rare “world boss” style creature out in Revendrenth that drops a mount. So every day we form a group of like 40 players to kill it. And it spawns this orb that sucks you in like a black hole. If you don’t run against the current you die. So here I am as a destro warlock unable to cast anything and contribute to the damage 90% of the fight. There are no “breaks” where you get to cast.
Maybe you’ll get a slim window at the start but once those orbs start spawning you become dead weight.
I was considering playing a mage this xpac but when I was trying it out all the damage came from proc fishing and not from the casts which felt really weird and didn’t like it
It made bringing melee extremely undesirable. There’s no reason to bring melee if ranged bring their strong points (damage on the move) without any of their downsides (lack of up time).
