RIP "Breaking the cycle", absolutely nothing is changing with factions

i’m un-hyper-connecting from this hyper-reality. there are bgs now where the alliance players are not real. they are AI. and by that i dont mean player controlled bots. i mean the game is creating fake alliance players to pvp against in bgs. in other words, its pve dressed up to look like pvp.

Merging isn’t the solution. Even if a merge did happen, you’d still have quasi-divisions going on with things like preferential treatment for Horde applicants in LFD because “everyone knows Alliance are casuals”.

What really needs to happen are some changes to make being Horde not so advantageous for high end content. Right now Horde holds all the cards, so why wouldn’t a serious player roll Horde? That’s the actual problem.

Alliance allied race racials (say that 5x fast) are a good start but it’s going to take more than that to overcome the momentum the Horde has built up.

this is so true. and nelfs leaving groups if there are horde in them because of teldrassil. but we’re talking more along the lines of friends and families being able to pick their preferred race and faction and still be able to group or raid together. everquest did something like this. y ou couldnt go in enemy cities without aggro but you could group/raid with and understand each other.

Other than the population imbalance of serious raiders and players who actually want to PvP, exactly what cards are they holding? It’s a participation imbalance, not an ability imbalance.

Among other things, their racials are hard to go wrong with (they’re all somewhere between good and excellent), the cultural zeitgeist has always favored Horde over Alliance (they’re “cool” and “badass” while Alliance are “boring”), and the e-celebs with big mindshare all play Horde.

And that imbalance was created by all the players who participate in high end content transferring. Alliance is currently full of players who never did that stuff or only dabble because they don’t minmax and don’t see any point in transferring.

It’s not impossible to turn these people in to high end content participants, but it’s going to be an uphill battle. There’s a significant rift between players who raid on heroic and higher or do M+ and those who do not.

To be fair, Tyrande wants an armistice agreement written in Sylvanas’s blood.

LFD doesn’t show the applicant’s faction. If any group leader tries to make “horde only” groups and reject highly experienced/skilled alliance players (yes, they do exist) it’s only going to be their loss. The problem will solve itself.

The only “card” horde holds is their player/recruitment pool, caused by the snowball effect of alliance players & guilds transferring to horde.

We broke the cycle in game…Now it’s time to break the one out of game.

And it has little to do with the factions being playable together. If you actually bothered to play that game you wouldn’t need to waste my time to say this.

I agree with them. The World of Warcraft is, at its core, based on Horde vs. Alliance. Take that away… it’s no longer that. It’s something different.

Not right so much She just knows her history.

We always come together at the end. Except this time we night elves a bit left out.

Its okay…we will be force fed back into the system after Tyrande goes Illidan a bit . Outland Illidan, not legion illidan.

Yea that would be the thing to do. Wpvp, battlegrounds, faction war, lore could all stay the same just let people go mercenary style for group PVE content like dungeons and raids.

World of Warcraft, at it’s core, is based on players vs monsters.

What makes you say it’s about Horde vs Alliance?

would be nice.

Need a paladin on tank not seeing why it matter if its BE or human. those this matters…well then don’t take the human tank on a horde run.

Which is one reason quite a few are not asking for a merging of the factions as much as being able to say “we are mercs/adventurers, screw the factions if it is for the good of the world or similar goals to each other”

To put it one way: we don’t want humans in Orgrimmar or Orcs in Stromwind as much as say how the Human and Orc fought Chen in the MoP intro cinematic or how, in the Legion intro, both factions were working together. We just more or less want to actually party with the other faction for dungeons, raids, even quests.

No, get out of here with that nonsense. That goes against the whole foundation of the Warcraft name.

Yeah faction divide is what makes WoW, WOW. We are neutral not best friends.

You can’t trust Ion with anything at this point, he promised major class changes for 9.0 in every patch talk during BFA, was too scared to deliver so he went with minor class changed, he promised loosening faction divide, BFA story went in that direction, then chickened out in the end.
Lawyers gonna be lawyers.

I’ll repost here what I have elsewhere on the subject.

Cross Faction Grouping for Dungeons and Raids is not as game-changing as people think. Alliance and Horde could easily still exist, even if players themselves could group up when War-Mode was disabled.

Additionally, allowing players to enter opposing Faction Capitals but see all citizens behave as Unfriendly NPCs in opposing towns would be another great step. The rules in such a scenario would be akin to Booty Bay. You must be extraordinarily careful not to attack players or NPCs in those towns. Or War-Mode is flipped on, the Guards net you and gank you.

Here’s my reasons on why I believe such a addition would improve the game.

1.) It preserves the Alliance and Horde, while at the same time showing that there was some agency to the expansion. That there ‘were’ lessons learned from BFA and that the story is not a complete and utter waste of time that was swept with Teledrassil’s ashes under the rug as we returned to business as usual, with characters eager to kill with all Alliance / Horde with the logic of a lobotomized rabbit.

2.) It preserves the Questing flow for both sides both in past and future expansions.

3.) War Mode and Cross Faction Grouping can use and work within the current leveling systems long term. If one is active, the other cannot be. War Mode would feature Hostile Enemy Towns and Open World PVP as is expected.

4.) It ensures that it is very unlikely there is EVER another Faction Pride / MoP themed expansion, which aligns to the claims by the Developers that the story is over and done for good. You guys say that? Prove it now.

Given the strong player distaste for BFA according to the forums, this would be a good thing as it’d be a case of Blizzard putting their money where their mouth is, and backing the player concerns with actions.

5.) Raiding on the Alliance and Horde is equalized if both sides can collab on Open World Questing, Dungeons, Raid Finder and on Group Finder. None of these things concern a PVPer so they have no voice or right to have a say in this matter.

World PVP / Factions become a “Sort it out yourselves”, scenario as it should be.

And you’re getting changes.

The masses do not want this garbage “let us play together” nonsense.
