Rings of Power

The original threads are quite old, so I’ll reignite it. How does everyone think this show is? I’ve read the Silmarillion and all I will say is, “It was massively disappointing and I want to gouge my eyes out.”

if I had to rate it, I would give it a B-. It has better acting & writing than shows like the witcher and a larger budget for special effects. I feel the same way about the show as I do with dance of dragons & the witcher; glad it’s there for people to watch, if I have time I’ll try to watch it but I won’t lose any sleep if it goes away. I get it’s not everyone’s cup of tea and could be better but I’m not sure why all the hate. The Silmarillion isn’t as great as people think it is in creating a dramatic plot. People saw first hand with the Hobbit what happens when you stretch out a thin plot. If you don’t like the show, don’t watch and if enough people don’t watch then it will go away.

I watched the first episode and felt no need to watch more. Main characters were unappealing or even annoying. Also, it was not Tolkien’s world. It was a corporate attempt at fantasy TV intended to rake some dough off the ‘LotR crowd.’

I haven’t see it nor I have any desire to see it. it seem lot people dip out on finale because it was that bad.

I haven’t watched it yet but I will eventually. It’s certainly has to be better than the Shannara Chronicles adaptation on MTV which was a massive disappointment.

I’ve attempted to watch it multiple times, always ending in me taking a nap.

So I guess if you’re sleep deprived it’s pretty good for you.

And so the fandom of Lord of the Rings sank into ruin, the line of kings failed, the white tree withered and the rule of storytelling was given over to lesser men.

I feel the same about star wars. The two franchises I loved as a kid have been soul sucked into medicority.

Now, I hate it, they botched so much, and I’m a lore nut, and yes so did Peter Jackson’s stuff, but you could feel respect from him.
Rings of Power… You know what, let’s not even go respect, first like 20 minutes, it was like when Galadriel was a kid or something, and when this other elf walks on screen, for some reason I couldn’t stop laughing. And apparently, as my father says I have this laugh, that no matter how nonsensical or bizarre the context, others will join in, so we’re laughing there for a solid 20 minutes. And then, it goes off into this cave or something, and it’s just boredom from there!
I don’t mind Female Leads or anything, but man… Why must Strong Fantasy Women be Armored, Emotionless Pricks? Why can’t they be caring and expressive? Plus, I’m sure they botched the timeline, but wasn’t Galadriel with her Hubby by now!? And WHY THE HECK ARE THERE TWO DURINS AT THE SAME TIME!?
Alright, I’m good…
I still don’t know… OH! and Celebrimbor! WTH!? Seriously!? And the whole Harfoots thing! WHY!? I get people like intricate plots but why so many perspectives!? Makes the 20 first chapters of the Manhwa “Ravages of Time” seem simple!
As Tolkien said, the Audience needs a Median, a Lens, that is indeed why Hobbits exist, to offer a lens into the fantasy world! That Stupid level of realism people need to be eased into fantasy you know? The Only reason hobbits were there, was for… IDK, nostaglia or something!? And all these original characters making me miss Tauriel from the Hobbit Trilogy, and she was God awful!
Dang it, I said this was gonna be short… sorry… Luckily I didn’t mention the racist nonsense, right? I’m sure I’ll be called a Sexist Biggot when I get anywhere in life…

I agree, it was a nightmare. At least it’s one more reason to go back and read the books.

I suppose that is true… Beyond all the nonsense, that’s the good thing, it’ll inspire people to look at the source material.
