Rings of power is decent

I’m enjoying the show, ep7 just came out. Pretty good so far. Yes, I like the trilogy as well. Idk why people hate this show so much. :man_shrugging:

I haven’t been able to bring myself to start the second season. The first season was only okay, and I didn’t really like the artistic style they decided on for a lot of the hairstyles in the show.

I’ll watch it eventually only because it’s a fantasy tv show, and we don’t get many of them.

Because the show craps all over the lore, basically. If they didn’t want to stick with Tolkien’s vision, they could have just created their own IP, but then of course they wouldn’t have the built in audience…

That’s why I didn’t stick with it anyway.

Nah, all the more power to you if you like it but I checked out of that show pretty quick. I’m not even a huge Tolkien nerd, I just don’t think it’s a good show.

I enjoy the show too. I see it more as a prequel to the movies than an adaptation of Silmarillion. You know, since they don’t have the rights to the Silmarillion and were advised by the Tolkien estate it would be better if they made things up.

Usually the haters are ones that wanted a Silmarillion adaptation and take that book as gospel, even though it was incomplete and pieced together using notes by Christopher Tolkien.

I don’t know. Jackson made a lot of changes. Christopher Tolkien hated those movies. Somehow they got a pass but Rings of Power doesn’t.

I like the show too.

I believe my biggest struggle with getting in to it was the rocky introduction to Galadriel. I had also just finished rewatching Arcane (epic character writing) and was strongly expecting similar and in the vein of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Which it’s not. I’ve surprised myself loving Elrond and the dwarves storyline more than the elves.

I will die on the hill that the Lord of the Rings trilogy is the best trilogy of movies ever made. It has everything, and the casting was phenomenal.

I wish I could agree but I find the characters less interesting than people reading phone books. (Google “phone book” if you don’t know what that is.)

Clearly you have no idea of what Tolkien wrote … this show is entirely destructive of the lore he created.

Hint: Galadriel isn’t a girlboss for just one of hundreds of things that have nothing to do with JRRT’s narrative.

I love those movies and have the extended editions. Hobbit too. I just don’t pretend there weren’t changes from book to movie, like excluding the Scouring of the Shire, which Tolkien said was the most important part. It’s okay to be a purist. Just be consistent.

Sharknado is a good movie.

Peter Jackson attempted to honor the books. Rings of Power does absolutely none of that and absolutely pukes all over Tolkein’s world of Middle Earth.

It’s such a terrible, terrible show.

I disagree that the books were honored, which is exactly what I pointed out before. They’re still good movies.

Dunno. I think it’s fine. But I haven’t started season 2 yet. Not in the mood for it yet. Right now, I’m watching some cooking shows.

“Speed Racer” is a cinematic masterpiece

I have read the Silmarillion. Don’t speak to house Finarfin that way, Galadriel maiden name is literally man-maiden ( She was taller than the other girls and agile, stronger too). Tolkien himself rewrote Galadriel many times, it’s not out of the realm that she fought before getting the ring and her own city and gaining wisdom in the later age.

Different goals for different audiences made at different times.

And this is why fantasy is such :poop:. Guyladriel the Girlbarian.

In some versions he referred to her as Amazonian and leading armies but Christopher Tolkien went with a different version of events.
