Do you think it’s okay to have a game overrun by gold spammers with no recourse against them?
Do you think it’s okay to allow people to threaten each other with death, or suggest they kill themselves?
Political speech? Eh. I’m not gonna report someone for saying “trump 2020”. I will report someone, and have reported people, for stuff like “we need another holocaust for ‘insert minority group here’”. Call me a snowflake all you want but I do find stuff like that offensive. And frankly everyone should. It scares me that we live in a world where advocating genocide doesn’t bother people.
Was already doing that before tools. RCR just makes the process far less of a pain in the butt. It also has the added benefit of killing communication with their alts.
And if that was all it did, people wouldn’t have a problem with it. But the automatic squelch is open for abuse, and there are no consequences for abusers.
What consequences do they have? And it is all done silently, behind the scenes. Put the consequences out in public. Name and shame them. Hand down draconian sentences for abuse. Make it so people think twice before hitting RCR for stupid stuff, or they end up getting a character reset to level 1 and their name shamed in front of the community.
Lock their characters in some public stockades in Stormwind and Orgrimmar, force them to serve a specific sentence logged in before they’re free again, have a sign next to them detailing their crime, and have a nearby merchant selling various rotten fruits and throwing objects that we can use to hurl at the chained up folks. Hell yeah!
When someone gets squelched a GM does look into it, and either upholds the punishment if it was warranted or they punish the ones who abused the feature.
I should ask you the same questions I asked the other guy up there.
Already answered. And when someone is threatening me with death, or suggesting I commit suicide, the last thing on my mind is to feel pity for those who for whatever sick reason want to continue to see it.
I once has a supervisor that could not even spell, had less than 2 years total in the company, had never even done the job the group over which he was in charge handled, he had no clue how to do the job and knew nothing about personal safety related to the job. In spite of his total incompetence, he felt that he was qualified to judge and rate our performance because the company put him in that supervisory position.
The point is that Johnny being given any amount of authority does NOT mean that he is qualified to have that authority.
Blizzard can change their system.
I am advocating that the system be tweaked and changed by:
A) removing the auto squelch from all but an “illegal services” option.
B) in a other instances the current auto squelch would be replaced by a system generated flag for manual review tied to an escalating priority system in which accounts with a higher number reports have higher priorities for manual review.
C) accounts reaching a significantly higher number of reports (say 50) and the highest priority are auto squelched.
Most people haven’t been voicing displeasure about it. Just a handful of people who, if they carry on in game like they do on the forum, are likely perps of actions that lead to squelches and silences. The vast majority of players go about playing the game without even giving thought to a RCR system.
God bless RCR for the entertainment it has provided on these forums.
Feels good man. Its kind of funny that being able to report morons and get them auto squelched if they are spamming and being stupid/bigoted in chat is so triggering for some folks.
/shrug oh well. Life is a give and take. Sometimes you get what you want, sometimes you don’t. 28 days till launch baby!
I knew you would reduce my entire comment to that. Did you read everything I wrote around that and why I thought it would be advantageous if that kind of behaviour was adopted by broader society? Some cultures (like where I’m from) are much more open to banter, even with strangers, and lo and behold, tribalism is minimal here, unless you spend all day on twitter.
I’ve said about 10 times in this thread that keeping RCR specifically for gold spamming purposes ONLY would be fine. Just not for anything else.
Threatening people with death is not a legal right, outside of the game, nor in it. Telling people to kill themselves. I’ve already been over in this thread. Most people say it flippantly without really meaning it, and I don’t care if someone says it to me, despite people in my family having killed themselves, but I also never advocated for blizzard to remove all regulations on their game for speech. I want a relaxed EULA. I’d also prefer if someone said that, that the person who was offended used ignore, and reported them manually.
I’m not sure that calling for a holocaust is necessarily protected speech even in normal society. I’m never quite sure why people always resort to the most extreme examples to distract from the broad swathes of significantly less heinous things that are banned alongside them.
I think it’s fine to keep it for other purposes too, though.
It doesn’t stop people from doing it in this game though. And yes I remember your response about the suicide thing but it’s still not an okay thing to say in this game. It’s also breaking the rules, so folks are well within their rights to report them for it. Removing RCR wouldn’t change anything except that it would take me a minute or two more to report someone.
Because that is what I plan to use RCR for. Calling for a removal of it because someone might abuse it by reporting someone who says something as innocent as “trump 2020” (as dumb as I think that is) isn’t a good reason.
its not just that they might do it . they do do it.
the purposal i made would keep the ease of being able to rcr someone and get further action taken without falsely squelching people for what amounts to nothing.
the only thing i, and most of the people who have a problem with is auto squelch being for everything .
remove the auto squelch on allllll but the “gold selling” new option.
if you have to wait for an hour for GMs to respond and take action it is fine. you shouldnt be able to see their chat anyways with the temp ignore it places on the person.
and in that time you can add that person to ignore for life and never have to have your eyes assaulted again by the person in question.
Given that instead of literally millions of players coming onto the forums expressing concerns about rcr, we have you handful pearl clutching and fear mongering, I am going to deny you a [citation]
