Right click mute

Greetings, this was a topic of discussion in the past that still requires discussion and awareness.

A more recent edition to World of Warcraft as a whole is a change to the report system. You are able to right click on names and report them for language. If there is enough at the same time you get a global mute, I experienced one spanning up to 72 hours back on BFA launch. I am not sure about any changes made to it since how it worked at launch.

This feature has been abused and people have voiced the abuse issue on the forums before. A major part of vanilla wow was communication, not being able to talk means no groups, no asking for invites or help, and no friendly discussions. We all miss those.

This system makes it easy on blizzard because it reduces ticket count. That was the purpose of it.

Before I get the typical snowflakes trying to re-arrange my post, by saying to right click report isn’t an issue, please take note. I am not complaining about the 7.3.5 report interface. I am complaining that there is a feature that allows a group of people to target you on chat, click twice, Disconnect you, and have you log to a 72 hour public mute. You then need to make a ticket and wait for the response.

Everything you wrote appears to be true.

The people on this forum are just going to say you deserved it and the system has no issues. Ignore them.

I would love to here from our loving Community Manager on this topic.

There’s a lot of vitriol in the opening post and subsequent responses. I don’t think that’s going to foster much of an open dialogue here. Calling people snowflakes right out of the gate isn’t going to help either. Just makes you look like someone who can’t formulate an arguement without using social buzzwords.

Lux, I am more interested in getting discussion going about the topic and possibly spiking a response from a CM. The people I labeled as snowflakes know who they are, I have argued with them on this topic before. They say three things.

  1. You deserve it.
  2. Make a ticket if you have been wrongfully muted.
  3. They will eventually try to tie the right click mute argument to an argument that is against the new reporting system, which tbh I think is fine.

I would prefer if those people dont even post here, typically they are a nuisance in every thread they enter.

If someone has a new wrench to throw at it, my ears are open.

Abuse of right-click report is so rare (like the abuse of a server blacklist) that it is not an issue.

Don’t say anything worthy of being muted and you won’t be.

It is pretty much exactly the same as putting in a ticket with less clicking and no typing.

If you want to disable right-click reporting in Classic, then Blizzard also needs to ban anyone caught using a server blacklist as they both do the same thing…

Hinder a person’s ability to get into groups.

What was wrong with /ignore? Besides the fact that they capped the number of people you could ignore.

Let me clue you in, since you and so many others seem to forget on a regular basis: Blizzard sees everything you type in the game.

Case in point: the “I was banned for PvPing!” thread that caused much outrage on Blizzard’s forums and reddit – until a Blue came out and said the OP had gone around another player’s Ignore to harass them.

How long has going around an ignore been a punishable offense, now?

The lesson, boys and girls: play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

No refutation of my points, just a personal attack.

Typical of people against right-click report. They just want to be able to be jerks with no consequences.

You have no points and you didn’t refute anything on my post. You are a bag in the wind.

You’re the one throwing around the word jerk. I don’t like being called a jerk. Why are you being mean, Fallanaa? Your post was incoherent and not worthy of a reply. Read the OP again then come up with a new argument.

That user is like Ziryus but about 20 IQ points lower. Typically will only respond to it once a thread, if even.

Which makes a player’s decisions in how they conduct themselves even more impactful.
Loss of communication for being an edgelord has real in game consequences.

So players should ask themselves:
Is it really that important that people know my controversial real world opininons in a game that they really DON’T matter in?

Case by case evaluation and punish those who abuse it harshly.
People will get the idea.

Idun. This topic is about being auto-muted, not banned. Blizzard doesn’t review what you typed before a mute, the machine does it.

The squelch is automated. This flags you for review. The GMs review the flag and decide whether or not to impose a silence, the time of which doubles with each infraction.

It’s account wide too correct?
Not just character specific?

I agree there is an issue with it. Spamming trade for enchanters would net you on ignore lists if you did it to often. However imagine 2 enchanters and they both are in trade selling +30 sp and 1 is cheaper. So now the more expensive one can just get his guild to get him muted. This could happen on peak selling times and weekends. The enchanter who got chat banned wouldnt know why or who he got reported from. Atleast as a bs or crafter you can sell stuff on ah but enchanting needs trade chat.

As far as I remember, yes.

There’s been people silenced for almost a year, already.
