Is there a game that is essentially a sort of Rift and World of Warcraft hybrid of sorts? A friend of mine has been wondering what such a game would be like or if people would even be interested in playing something like that. Searches online tend to bring up posts bout one game or the other and no mention of anything that is along the lines of both meshed into one game. IS there such a thing? Or is it just wishful thinking on part of my friend?
Given the long drawn out grinding it reminds me more of wildstar then rift. That said the vaste majority of people here only watched the ad for wildstar and will bitterly disagree.
RIP Wildstar
Rift sucked, thatâs why its gone.
Iâve never played that game, so I wouldnât honestly know. It does still seem to be around though. How many people are playing it, I have no idea.
Except itâs not gone.
Itâs still an active MMO.
So is archeage but come on.
To answer your question OP, there really isnât a hybrid that exists between RIFT and World of Warcraft. If anything, Iâd actually consider RIFT a hybrid these days between Classic WoW and Retail WoW.
Because RIFT has many of the things that folks raved about when it comes to Classic WoW. Talent trees, difficult quests, crafting that serves a genuine purpose, lots of abilities for each class etc.
But it also has many of the conveniences and features of retail WoW, such as a dungeon finder and transmog, with their transmog system being better than what WoW currently offers.
Itâs a shame it doesnât have a more active playerbase, but then again, it was the only MMO to actively try to compete with WoW to the point where their marketing prior to release used the slogan âWeâre not in Azeroth anymoreâ so they aimed for the stars, but didnât quite make it before they flopped the landing.
On a âdeath of a gameâ video the streamer said Rift had a 60 million dollar development budget and made that money back after release. It must have been popular for awhile.
I downloaded Rift a few months ago as they are trying to revive the game. It was very similar to WoW so I decided to devote my time to the newer non tab target based ESO instead.
I did enjoy the huge build diversity you had in Rift but outside of that the game wasnât really that good.
When it launched the game was honestly phenomenal (keep in mind that this was back in 2011, long before WoW got many of its visual upgrades), especially with what it brought to the table in regards to systems and mechanics. The build diversity was one thing, but on top of that it had:
- A dedicated support role for dungeons and raids.
- A top notch transmog system (which still remains one of the best out of all MMOs on the market).
- A really unique title system with both prefix and affix titles that could be used at the same time.
- Challenging quest content (with elites that would legitmately crush you if you didnât come at the quest with either a full group or a raid).
- One of the first public group systems where you could simply âjoinâ raid groups out in the world with the click of a button.
Honestly I could go on here for a bit, but those are the main things, and of course the game got more customizable as they rolled out content updates, including giving roles and playstyles to classes that you wouldnât think would use them. Such as warriors using ranged spells, warrior healing, mage tanking, and my personal favourite, rogue tanking.
It was a game with a team that wasnât afraid to try something new, and if they had to invent an entirely new backstory to enable X class feature, they did it without hesitation.
I played beta for Rift, and I loved this system. Too bad I got bored with the game itself pretty quickly.
There actually is one. I played the beta. It much like that. It does have it own spin: astellia. Look before leep. It a little on kiddy side. Still i had loads of fun.
Wanted to enjoy rift but all I remember is having about eight buffs at around level fifteen and just not being into it
Rift was great at launch and for about a year maybe two after but then it flopped and hard.
I play Eso when im not doing WoW stuff, but I wouldnt say its like Rift or WoW. I cant really think of any current mmo that is inbetween them.
Closest thing currently existing is FFXIV. They have âriftsâ but there isnât a consequence for not completing them.
Isnât this another failed Korean MMO like Bless? Just milking the western market to recoup their losses?
Aion had all of that and was about about 2 years before hand. Donât get me wrong, I played Rift for about a year and I enjoyed it. But outside of the amazing build diversity it had, there was little that hadnât already been done. I will give them credit thou for their open raid system that you could use to take on rifts. That was a pretty new concept back then.
Man, RIFT was terrible.
Went into this thread expecting VR. Totally disappointing.
