I have one character that needs artisan flying at this point which I believe is the level that they are removing. Am I wasting money if I buy it now or will I automatically get the next higher level when Shadowlands starts if I pay for artisan now?
You wouldn’t necessarily be wasting money, since I believe that if you have artisan, they don’t take the 280% speed away from you (I know that on PTR they don’t take expert away from toons that get it before being copied over, lowering them to lvl 25) but if your goal is just to get it in order to get up to Master riding, I’d wait and save 5000g, since there’s no free upgrade.
Edit: Just did some testing, and 280% fly speed is retained if already owned, though it’s not listed in the spellbook.
I don’t know why I find this so confusing. The picture shown above shows the level you get the riding skills and it still shows the top two levels there at $5000 each (artisan and master flying). However, I have read many places that artisan flying is being removed. From what you are saying, to not spend more money than necessary, I should wait and spend the $5000 for master riding. I’m not in a big hurry I just have some mounts I just got that require artisan riding to unlock (the cloud mounts). I don’t mind waiting a few months to unlock them if it saves me $5000.
Whenever something’s removed, it makes things confusing. How this is working is that Artisan will no longer be purchasable, and it won’t be a prerequisite for Master flying. It will still be in the code, however, so those who do have it but don’t get Master before pre-patch will still gain its effects, despite it not showing up in their spellbook. That last part isn’t relevant to what you’re asking, though.
So the answer to your question is yes, if you wait a few months, you can save 5000g by not having to train Artisan, as Master in the pre-patch should let you learn the Cloud Serpents. If it doesn’t, than it’s a bug, and should be sorted out before long.
