Revisiting Forest Trolls

Or more aptly the Revantusk.

There’s four things about them I think are important;

-They’ve retaken Jintha’Alor as of Cata’s content.
-They’re next to an Emerald Dreamway
-They’re friendly with the Forsaken and will abide the Sin’Dorei as it’s mutually beneficial.
-They have a conflict with the Wildhammer

With those things in mind I think you could bring the Revantusk, and Forest Trolls into the Horde more prominently as the Eastern Horde’s nature loving faction.

Their actual addition would be of only minor effort. You just need to make a buff hunched male troll model playable- and I’d give that option white and icey blue Frost Troll options as well. For the female model all you need to do is offer a few greener skin tone models and you’re already golden. So just do literally only that if the buff model is too much work.

They can now have a minor city in the Hinterlands with Jintha’Alor and Revantusk Village, the ladder now having an actual dock with connections to Zandalar and the Echo Isles.

Between their affinity for the woods and proximity to the dreamway they could discover druidism naturally. They already have the manimal troll primals as a step toward that as is. You can say some Nelves from the Cenarion Circle in neighboring Lordaeron gave them instruction booklets or w/e if you don’t want to rob them of being the true origin.

They’re also just a better retroactive explanation for Troll Druids. I mean let’s be real here they’re the wood elves of this setting. And they’re the only trolls with an Emerald Dreamway in their living room. It makes perfect sense.

They’re also perfectly buddy buddy with the Forsaken, and have at least worked with Velonara in the past. I think that’s important because I feel they could spearhead the rehabilitation of parts of Lordaeron without the Forsaken feeling weird about it. The Forsaken aren’t going have to lift a claw if Alliance loggers run into a forest troll hunting party before breaking dirt.

And speaking of the Alliance- I don’t know much about the Wildhammer other than they’re the hill Dwarf to the Mountain and Deep Dwarf Bronzebeards and Dark Irons. But beyond that I know they have cool tattoos, ride bald eagle lions and throw lightning axes at people. Which is pretty sweet. So I feel you could give their already playable customization something to do, and given the High Elf lodges why not let the Rendori do some stuff now that they also have a much sought after customization option.

I mention that because it’d mean content for both factions, so Blizz would have a reason to do it.

So what do you think? Good idea? Or have I officially put way too much thought into this after rerolling my druid as a troll I’m RPing as Revantusk?

The general problem with the Forest Trolls is that as a peoples they are still heavily divided. The Revantusk are doing better than most, in no small part to their affiliations with the Horde, but it remains unclear just how much clout they actually hold with the other Forest Troll tribes. Even after Cata. They do however have some generally positive bridges built with members of the Forsaken. And I’ll admit that Jintha’Alor is one of the most underappreciated cities in the game. Love that classic terraced look. Functional and aesthetic.

That being said, despite the catastrophic losses they’ve suffered over the years it is very clear that culturally the Amani have a ton of weight still within the greater Forest Troll communities. The Revantusk is easy enough to RP into the Horde, the Forest Trolls in general (who do need some sort of more permanent resolution, especially with the situation in Arathi) is more difficult. One that is grounded in some semblance of reality given the BE’s dependence on the Sunwell (meaning moving them is problematic).

Personally, I always like the idea of the EK Horde taking a more solid control over the Plaguelands. Leaving the Argents to their own devices of course. Then the prior Scarlet Enclave territories can be gifted to the Forest Trolls to reunite their Northern holdings of Zul’Mashar and Zul’Aman with their Southern Ones in the Hinterlands. I also have rather … strong … opinions on the Wildhammer of Aerie Peak (provided what Magni said about the Old God corruption is correct), but we’ll leave that topic aside for now.

I’m not opposed to more Forest Troll involvement with the Horde, but I don’t think that the Horde is in any position to be theorycrafting a dominant position in Lordaeron post-Fourth War. If anything you’d think they’d be drawing up plans to leave now that their dream of rebuilding a Troll empire in the Eastern Kingdoms is fully dead.

The idea would be through working with the Horde, and now with the support of the Zandalari, the Revantusk are the successful Forrest Troll tribe.

The Darkwater were similarly backwater nobodies and now their favorite sons being championed by Loa. Additionally they’ve managed interplanetary colonization and have produced, on the whole, the most formidable Troll warriors in recent memory.

The Amani are to the Revantusk what the Gurubash are to the Darkspear. Additionally they could serve as a beacon to other Forrest Trolls. So you’d have aspects of the Witherbark, Vilebranch, and even Amani taking their families and heading Jintha’Alory way for a safer, more prosperous life.

Additionally I think they could just get the Troll territories already in Lordaeron. With them spear heading rehabilitation efforts in Zul’Mashar with the Forsaken bothering with Tyr’s Hand and the still largely uninhabitable Corin’s Crossing and Darrowshire.

It’d also allow for a conclusion to the Zul’Aman storyline. With the Revantusk led reformist forest trolls brokering a shared territory and working in tandem to finally seize the place outright. Because that’s the only happy ending we get with Zul’Aman. The Sin’Dorei just aren’t the good guys there and without other Forest Trolls standing around going “Yeah the Amani zealots need to go” they’re not going to be ones.

The Forsaken, Sin’Dorei and Revantusk agreeing to share the continent as friends and allies is the only real way to put a good end to that storyline. I also think it’d be cool if there was a big battle in Alterac where they all pulled together with the Revantusk winning the day. Essentially creating a sequel to the old Battle of Alterac that ended the forest Trolls as a power, with a new one that signals their rebirth.

Boy you guys are gonna be in denial about BfA happening for a while aren’t you

I might as well write out my ideas for how Theramore, Bael Modan, and Darnassus should carve up Durotar and the Barrens

I’d probably want those resources going to something more new and interesting than an old subset of trolls and a location removed from what’s generally relevant.

Something I’ve seen a few times.

I know you don’t actually read my posts but I explicitly mentioned the Zandalari. And you might as well write that fan fiction. Holds as much water as deciding Lordaeron is the Alliance’s because they hold two run down forts and a biohazard. Seriously I could argue the Horde own all Nelf territory from the existence of Zoram’Gar alone. Only that actually exists in game.

I’m more referencing a theoretical Cata esque sequel that would revist Azeroth. I obviously wouldn’t suggest this should be in like 9.1 as that would be some clown shoes ish.

But if we have a followup expanding in everybody’s territories- yeah I think this would be pretty cool. And you wouldn’t have to care about the trolls. There’d be Wildhammer and Rendori as well. That’s why this idea holds water, I think.

I’d also like to see changes to Lordaeron proper but outside the Red Team I’d only involve the Argents. Much like how I’d have Nelf territory be supremely Blue but have the Cenarions there to provide stuff for Red players to do.

The Horde no longer controls any substantial portion of Lordaeron and are in no position to be eyeing expansion in the area unless they want to start yet another war that they will lose.

With Stromgarde restored and an easy connection to Aerie Peak the Horde’s ability to even hold the Hinterlands, home of the Revantusk, would be in question, to say nothing of the fact that you are also proposing that the Horde take land controlled by the Argent Crusade.

The Amani Empire is even deader than the Forsaken’s hold on Lordaeron is and it’s never coming back. Humanity is in ascent in the Eastern Kingdoms once more and the refusal of the Trolls and Blood Elves to accept this is why they’re in such a pathetic state in the first place.

Argents can sod off and die, I’d rather have Alliance content about Southshore, Hillsbrad and Gilneas than memeing it up with orcs in knight armor somewhere in Plaguelands.

lol yes because I’m just constantly on the edge of my seat waiting for your valuable responses to my posts. Really it’s the only reason I have to live and I just can’t stand not having your attention.

That’s somehow even sadder.

Not enough true and loyal human fans around here, immigrants gotta come in and do the jobs americans don’t want to do pal.

Yes those two neighboring territories.

Seriously it is amazing clown shoes are able to fit on a screaming baby.

Humanity already got Stromgarde back. Their actual homeland. Well, not really, all land is Troll land, but all human kingdoms stemmed from it. In reality humanity’s homeland is whatever stretch of Northrend it was when vyrkul decided to spirit away their malformed weakling children. But close enough.

But even thats not good enough. No we can’t have it being the Worgen’s story about reclaiming Gilneas and fighting the Forsaken in Silverpine. No it has to be about how humans are totally badass.

You childish chimpanzee of a man. Your ideas are awful, and are never going to come to fruition.

Have you ever been to Arathi? There’s a tunnel leading directly from there to Aerie Peak in the Hinterlands.

How do you know this little about the topic you’re constantly making dumb suggestions about?

You utter muppet. I have written more about the glory of Kul Tiras than I have about forest trolls and probably any other Horde race outside the Forsaken.

I know this is difficult for smooth brained malcontents to comprehend, but I’m really pro everyone having a good time. I want the Worgen to get Gilneas back, I want the Nelves to get back their territory and then some, I want the Gnomes to have Gnomergon turned into a real city and I want the Draenei to get an updated Azuremyst Isles as badly as I want a Quel’Thalas version of that.

I just don’t want Stormwind land grabbing in Lordaeron for much the same reason I’d be baffled if the Forsaken were handed Duskwood.

I just want Southshore and Gilneas to be honest. And lower Silverpine to connect them. Oh and actual Lordaeron themed transmogs would be cool too.

Stop projecting.
