Revert Option for New UI?

I just really wish there was an option to revert the new UI that came out with the prepatch back to the old one.

Give players the choice.

Not everyone wants the soulless, aesthetically unpleasing, and overwhelming new ui. There was nothing wrong with the old one. It wasn’t broken. Why change it to something subjectively worse without giving players the option to return to the older ui that they’ve grown accustomed to for years?

And no, edit mode does not fix this. There is no way for edit mode to revert the ui’s art style or move the action bars back to exactly the way they were. It overall seems janky and unnecessary.

This is what pisses me off the most and normally I don’t get angry about a lot of stuff Blizzard does because normally changes are not this intrusive.

They took away our choice period.

We had no choice in this at all and that’s ironic considering how they’ve been espousing about the new UI and HUD layout being all about choice.

A lot of us were fine with the old default UI.

If they had given us the CHOICE to switch to the new UI then I would’ve been fine with that and they DID NOT do that at all. It basically got forced on all of us. If I’d been able to login and turn that option on just like I was able to do with all the other accessibility stuff and then maybe tinker with the UI, I would’ve been fine with it.

As is I hate it and I’m rightfully pissed off alongside a bunch of other people about this because they stripped away our choice to use the new UI or to still use the default UI that so many of us know, love, and were comfortable with.

Instead of logging in and enjoying all the pre-patch stuff, we now have to spend who knows how long fixing the UI, and getting it back to a point where the game is remotely playable without it looking like a gnome barfing up a dump truck’s worth of candy onto our screens.

Taking away control from people is never a good thing and this just alienated more people than they realize.

I’m surprised there wasn’t at least one person with beta/PTR access who recreated the old UI for us older fogeys who resist change, but I’ve been looking for weeks and haven’t found anything. Then again, I don’t know where people are actually getting their non-retail addons these days because the UI community got gutted when the overwolf thing happened, and it hasn’t seemed to recover since, so.

I’m definitely keeping my eye out for a minimap addon that replicates the old function and design (and size!!). I can probably live with the new action bars, even though they feel clunkier than they ought to and I’m sad that I’ll have to permanently eschew having the gryphons/wyrvens on because they only work on one bar and don’t stretch across, and I haven’t used the default unit frames since I picked up x-perl in 2005-ish so once z-perl updates I’ll be back to normal on that, but man.

The whole UI overhaul is absolutely a whiff, and unfortunately it’s 100% because it wasn’t a priority and the patch shipped out without it complete. Again.

To get something closer to normal, you can make action bar 3 two rows and then move it to the right of action bars 1 and 2. Moving action bar 1 and 2 gets a bit finnicky and other stuff like stance bars can get “de-anchored” when you move action bar 2 so it’s kind of a pain. I’d share my layout but mine is kind of a mess.

Blizzard should’ve done that for the “Classic Layout”. If they can get those bars in the familiar orientation and move the right gryphon to the bottomright of actionbar 3, the UI would be much more familiar.

I play on a 17-inch monitor and the UI changes are clearly intended for people using screens double this size.

In order to make everything fit, I have to shrink icons to the point of straining my eyes. Even then, the default position of the action bars overlaps the chat box, which cannot be edited except for placement. The same goes for the mini map. When I open up the new talent tree, everything is so freakin’ tiny that I might as well shrink my UI and play with my nose to the screen.

This is, by far, the worst change made to this game since the switch from WotLK talent trees. Blizzard gave players more options without giving the RIGHT options… and then removed the option to say “no thanks” to the massive changes they made.

The things we’d like to edit can’t be changed and the things that can be changed don’t work as intended. It has entirely disrupted the way I interact with the game world, and this is before we even take into account the big changes with the talents.

So far, the best I have managed is to run the Horseman on a couple of rogues at levels 10 and 59, hoping to figure out the best way to do things, but then I run into the problem of my poisons defaulting into a downward stack from the selection button. Does anybody know how to fix this, or am I going to need to plaster my favorite poisons on the action bars directly to save the headache?

I’m greatly concerned that these new changes will make the game unplayable for both myself and my wife… and she is FAR more critical than I am. I’ll never hear the end of it, since we both JUST bought 6 months of game time! Yikes!

I Absolutely hate the new UI… so much so they i probably wont be playing any longer unless i can find a UI addon to go back to the way things were… if i want ElvUi i would have downloaded it. I genuinely dislike looking at the screen… can we please have an option to use the old HuD

Sure. Get your time machine working and set it for about 3 years ago. That’ll do it just fine.

I’m sorry, but this really sounds like trolling or the worst game of ‘Play stupid games, win stupid prizes’ ever.

Blizzard has been talking about these UI changes for quite a while now.

I’m sorry that you weren’t paying attention, but if this is really a deal breaker, it’s only a problem because you weren’t.

If you are so concerned that taking a day to customize your UI or learn the new default one would totally wreck your ability to play, perhaps you shouldn’t have invested in two six-month subs right before a major UI update (or a new XPAC for that matter).

The worst is I doubt they will give us the option, its the “you guys dont have phones” mentality all over again.

I hate the new UI with a burning passion, the frames look off, the mini menu looks off, the bags in circles look off…

I specially hate the LFG eye, I guess mine is right in the middle of the screen due to addons or something.

The new UI is so bland too. They didnt even think to add a shading option to bars like a million other UIs already have? My bars, frames and map have all been outlines in black or dark red for YEARS, and now they are dull and dead grey and because of their trash update I cant even use my addons to fix it.
Not to mention, I dont care what Xmog players are using, when I click on someone I want to see their class and spec immediately and recognizable. How is there no option to display class and/or spec art instead of a players head? There are over 10 addons that have hundreds of thousands of downloads which do THAT FUNCTION ALONE. Yet blizz devs dropping the ball once again, unsurprisingly.

“If you are so concerned that taking a day to customize your UI”
How exactly are we supposed to customize when the options given by blizz are minimal at best and they have disabled/killed the ability to override their systems with addons.
Its not about taking time to “fix” what they broke, its the total inability to have what we have had for years because blizzard broke something that didn’t need to be fixed.
The fact there is not “opt out” of the new UI option is astounding, considering most of the playerbase is over 30 and they should have known completely changing the UI would be more than jarring and infuriating for many players.
This isnt fortnite. They aren’t catering to zoomers who need a “sleek fresh minimal UI”. Most of those players quit because the game sucked. The most loyal players/fans have been playing for years and they are the ones most affected by this, and they’re being tossed under the bus.

They haven’t.

Things evolve over time.

That wouldn’t really be easy to do as a large portion of the new UI is reworking all the old code into a more modern version. Not to mention that the old UI has no talent and/or profession frames that are compatible with the new system.

The UI really isn’t all that different from the old one except for maybe the art style. It contains all the components the old one had, it just looks a little different.

New UI is a Dumpster Fire. Why this got approved is anyone’s guess, it’s godawful and it’s literally so broken on my comp right now that I can’t even play the game. I’ve been sitting here for the last 45 mins trying to un-merge the 1st and 2nd action bars, let alone get it to where the window for it doesn’t go completely across the screen. It’s changed sizes and settings every time I restart the game. It’s a different setting every time I hit ‘reset to default’.

This is absolute garbage. Nobody asked for this, I don’t understand why they have to bake in every single addon everyone comes up with, only they adapt it and break it so badly that it would have been better off in the first place. Dominos updated, but when I load it, it blocks off all the action bars entirely and you can’t see anything.

Once again, good old Blizz, fixing stuff that isn’t broken to begin with, and ignoring the glaringly constant issues people point out for years on end. Bravo.

Link is to what my flippin’ screen looks like right now. Tadaaa! Now how do you fix this trash?

I agree with you lachi some things are way too small like the icons in the bottom right corner and the time stamp above the mini map while the map itself is way to big :frowning:
it’s like everything I want to change with this new ui is not changeable if i could change the bags icon make those icons larger fix the map in the top right i could live with the other changes

Hey OP, I just wanted to follow up because I found the ClassicUI addon folks are currently working on updating it for DF. It will be a while, but we’ll get ol’ reliable back.
