Revendreth Storyline Summary

Nice! Looks awesome. Hopefully Kael’thas is redeemed. He can be the hero to save us.

Rendle: Final judgment comes from the Master. It is he who commands this place. It is he who embraces souls to become Venthyr, the tormentors and eaters of sin.

eaters of sin.

Eaters of sin. In an expansion called Shadowlands.

This is starting to sound familiar

Considering they’re nothing alike beyond name I can buy it being a coincidence.

Now if they were light monsters.

I mean, at least aesthetically, that’s Bastion.

Now if only there was an ancient forest inhabited by bestial humanoids

Actually I believe there is some type of ghoulish monster in Revendreth which actually uses the Light to punish wicked souls. They didn’t look particularly lighty though.

I don’t have the link on hand, but apparently the Venthyr have a Naaru, which they keep chained up in a dungeon. They know its Light energies can cause physical pain and discomfort to certain creatures (or at least their souls), so they strap these folks people down in close proximity to it and just let them writhe in agony.

This only supports my profiling Venthyr as 2X-Treme Blood Elves.

I was right. The Accuser calls Denathrius saying " You were once the lord of dread".

There has to be a connection between him and the dreadlords.

The Accuser: You were once the lord of dread. Now? Now your teeth have lost their terror

(Commentary): I’m digging this light rivalry between WoW and FFXIV. That said, I find it far more interesting that the Venthyr have a captured Naaru they used to torture various souls. I wonder if that, too, is a means to redeem a race? Or heck, maybe it’s Kael’thas’ chance to redeem himself by freeing said Naaru.

Agreed. Denathrius, the Lord of Dread. Castle Nathria.
The signature ability of the Venthyr is door of shadows, basically portal magic which the dreadlords exceed at.

It’s not even subtle. Since shadowlands is doing a lot of origin stories, it makes me think the Nathrezim originate from the shadowlands, or somehow come from Sire Denathrius, (could literally be the Sire of the Nathrezim) or maybe somehow were turned from Venthyr into what they are.

I think it’s the other way round. I think Denathrius was a dreadlord from Nathreza who somehow became powerful in the Shadowlands to create his own realm (possibly by gaining favor with the Arbiter) and then shaped the Venthyr in his image. The exception ofcourse being that Venthyr souls were not demons and therefore didn’t look exactly like him.

I’m guessing this would have ties into the San’layn blood magic as well, as both San’layn and Nathrezim use vampiric magic.

Denathrius created the Venthyr in his image and created Revendreth according to the Revendreth Preview on the Official Website.

Denathrius is clearly a Dreadlord who built his own Realm in the Shadowlands and either the Arbiter found a way to use it or he decides what Souls go to his Realm.

Since Revendreth’s Storyline says he is behind the Soul Drought by sending all the Souls to the Maw it seems he controls the flow of Souls despite the decisions by the Arbiter.

Wonder if Sylvanas went to the Maw despite being less evil than Kael’thas because Denathrius wanted her there(either out of spite for her making Varimathras kill Balnazzar or because the Jailer wanted her)…

If so than Arthas’s actions prior to picking up Frostmourne(purging Stratholme to the point where survivors pilled up the bodies and backstabbing his mercenaries) for what he thought would save his people may not have been judged worse than Kael’thas by the Arbiter but Denathrius threw him in there anyways.

Dreadlords corrupted Sargeras then Arthas and it seems one corrupted Sylvanas by dumping her where she didn’t belong.

Considering Dreadlords return to the Twisting Nether killing Denathrius will simply send him back into the Nether to set up the Council Fight with Denathrius, Mephistroth and Tichondrius!

Not quite. From my understanding, Revendreth is the most efficient realm at harvesting anima, through its various methods of purgatory and torture. It’s why we’re asked to go see if Denathrius has a surplus, and convince him to start distributing the surplus to the other realms. The souls there are still sent there by the Arbiter. And he’s sending all the anima to the Maw, not souls proper. Instead using the Maw to get rid of people who’ve discovered his plot, and rebelled.

But why tho? What does he get from that?

Denathrius? He’s in league with the Jailer, as well. So probably an assortment of boons, perks, and powers once the Jailer is free. Especially since towards the end of the questline, when you go to Torghast, you find out all the anima Denathrius is funneling into the Maw is weakening the Jailer’s bindings.

That’s a pretty smart bit of worldbuilding, since it tracks that so much concentrated Light energy must feel like pressing up against a hot stove (RIP DKs and Undead PCs on the Vindicaar lol). Really funny mental image, though.

gentle chimes in the distance as a prisoner is dragged through twisting dungeon halls

“No! Please! I’ll do anything!”

chiming gets closer

“NOOOO!”

the prisoner is forced into restraints as blinding light washes over him, in the center of the room is a Naaru, just chilling in a giant glass jar with some oversized leaves, a tree branch, and holes poked in the lid

" :bell: :musical_note: :dizzy: Hey uh sorry about this bud, can’t really turn this off :dizzy: :sun_with_face: :notes: "

How did a Naaru end up there? Did they kidnap it like M’uru or was it sentenced to Venthyr by the Arbiter?
