Revamping / Adjusting racials

I think some racials could do with a revamp so here are my poorly thought out suggestions

HUMAN

Will to Survive

  • Stun break → temporarily increase maximum health by x% for y seconds

  • Kind of like Last Stand. Fits more in line with the actual name of the ability. Suitable for all content (PvE / PvP / solo)

  • Diplomacy → Getting XP is cool (i dunno a name)

Diplomacy is supposedly being deleted so maybe just increase XP gains from all kills by 10%

Night Elf
Maybe do the whole Zandalari Loa thing where you can choose your secondary stat blessing (crit or haste) instead of it based on actual night or day cycles

WORGEN

Blood Hunt

  • 1% crit → 10% crit for 10 seconds, 3 min cooldown

Dark Flight → Scent of Blood

Passive

  • Allies and Enemies within 15-30 yards of you increase movement speed by 7%

DRAN… DROON… DRENOOO… DRANEEE… BLUE SPACE GOATS

  • Gift of Naaru also reduces incoming damage by 10%

HORDE

ORC

Many year ago Orc good. Then bad orc make portal. Demon. Many demon.

  • Hardiness 20% stun reduction → Every second in combat reduces damage taken by 1%. Maximum 10 stacks. Every 2 seconds out of combat reduces 1 stack.

UNDEAD

  • Consume flesh - Increase leech by 25% for 8 seconds

BLOOD ELF

  • Arcane Torrent AoE → Single target with 30 yard range

GOBLIN

I think the jump and rocket could be changed.

  • Add a teleport at location which takes 1 second to craft. Clicking racial ability ports you back to location. Lasts 20 seconds and max range 20 yards

You can’t have a serious discussion about racials without dealing with how mandatory Stoneform/Fireblood are, these days. The leaderboards are chock-full of dwarves and 3/4 of the characters in RWF Amidrassil were dwarves.

Either:
a. give the debuff removal to every race
or
b. convert the debuff removal into something like “20% more xp from killing elementals” (as they did to the Troll beastslaying racial). stoneform/fireblood would still be fine racials with their other effects (the damage reduction and the combat potion effects are fine; there’s no need for the debuff removals on top of that)

I think as many racials as possible should be genericized and then assigned a point value. Then every player could just have the racials they want, based off a point allocation system. Players who really care about racials are just going to play the race that has the best ones at any given time, so it’s not like giving free choice is going to mess with anything. For most racials I also see no way that they could not be made generic to suit all races, even if a sucker punching gnome is odd. Inb4 something about RP. No, player choice in racials adds more to personal RP, which is more important than being a copy/paste. Absolutely no reason a human hunter can’t make a camp.

Unfortunately race changes are something that they can monetize, and it’s be more likely they adjust racials to encourage race changing than just making them character traits.

This wouldn’t work. You need to give Dwarves something proper to compensate. Not just more exp.

Races generally have two combat racials, One that increases throughput the other is some form of utility. Stoneform is the Dwarf’s utility racial for example and their throughput racial is crit strike bonus damage and healing.

If you replace stoneform it’d have to be a proper utility racial. It can’t just be another throwaway racial.

Edit: Before it’s mentioned Beastslaying was considered a flavor racial for the longest time similar to how gnomes take less arcane damage. Beastslaying became an issue though when we started having beast bosses and trolls were double dipping on throughput racials. Trolls already had a Throughput racial in Berserking.

It’s exactly what Blizzard did to Trolls.

And Stoneform/Fireblood weren’t a problem until Blizzard shifted the game to be almost entirely about monsters applying bleeds/poisons/diseases/etc. in massive numbers.

AND when Blizzard started adding Mythic final raid boss mechanics that could be removed with the press of a button using the dwarf racial.

Blizzard CREATED this problem. Now they need to fix it.

BTW, even without the debuff removal, Dwarf & Dark Iron Dwarf combat racials are still miles ahead of other races like Vulpera.

I dunno why you’re telling me all this… I’m just saying you can’t replace stoneform with bonus exp.

No they didn’t read the edit. Trolls still had Berserking for Throughput. They were still one of the best races in the game at the time.

Dwarves are one of the highest DPS races for racials. They aren’t getting that from the Stoneform debuff removal.

Dwarves will be fine. They’re already OP as hell.

You really aren’t understanding a thing… You’re taking away their utility racial. Something every race has.

Pandaren have Quaking Palm
Trolls have VooDoo Shuffle
Gnomes have escape artist

It doesn’t matter how good or bad it is. EVERY RACE has a combat utility racial. You can’t just take away Dwarf’s and say it’s okay.

No, goblins don’t need a pointless teleport. Rocket Jump is fine. Maybe a slightly shorter CD.
Rocket Barrage, either needs to be on a separate GCD though to make it meaningful to be apart of the racial lists. Or turn it into a Passive that activates on Crit Damage.

It’s thematic with the goblin fantasy, its more versatile in its use and way more fun than a 2 minute mini jump that gets interrupted by CC, small hills and a bunny that got in the way.

You know what is pointless, however? The actual DPS part of the racial.

I mean any one of the goblin engineering trade skills could probably fit their racial quite nicely tbh

While I can see and respect your love of the Reven Teleport from SLs and VElves racial teleport on how it inspired your idea for this for goblins. Vast majority of Goblin players and those who main goblins don’t just use RJ willynilly going up hills, and can eyeline the terrain to know when to use it to gain full advantage of it’s distance. As well know how to bait out CCs when in a PvP situations to use it as an escape/closer without wasting it.

Gnomes/Mechagnomes would be more thematically accurate to a degree for any type of tech based teleport.

Unless your wanting a generic blink on goblins cause the ones you faced in PvP actively use it as a combo with over class related mobility skills… Probably a Goblin Shaman got away from you using Gusts of Winds and RJ which covers a far greater distance than 20yards… Hmmm? HMMM? (I kid… RJump is fine, just lower CD to 1min and 30seconds).

Time is Money is a great DPS based Racial, free 5% haste without needing to use up a keybind or ability slot, allows for that extra Crit or Mastery (pending on class+spec).

As for Rocket Barrage, yeah, I agree, as an active DPS Racial ability it is an absolute waste as long as it is sharing the same CD with Rocket Jump. Though it can hit / crit as much as normal melee / ranged auto attack (white damage numbers). It (Rocket Barrage) would be much better off as a passive that activates (using same visuals) when a class ability crits and has a short CD like 15-to-30seconds.

Truthfully I was more thinking about the Booty Bay Gnomer teleporter machine

The thing with goblins and gnomes is given their ingenuity, you could literally have any skill in the game as their racial and it would fit well.

You could have a wonky stealth ability, goblin boots, an in combat ressurect (jumper cables), teleports, shields and barriers, a personal robot body guard…

Oh the joys of turning Gobber into a combat companion would be great, mechanized or not.

Well, Orc would be THE race for every class. Permanent 10% damage reduction while in combat? Light, that cannot be passed up!
