Returning to WOW - Worst BG experience

I have played every single prepatch since WOTLK. This is the worst prepatch i have played in terms of just doing a bg for fun.Just getting one tapped i cant even play my class.

I also played the WOTLK Classic prepatch and was getting one shot but at least Gear progression was fun and you could outplay people with zero gear. I find it far more difficult to outplay in retail just due to all the unstoppable abilities\unavoidable damage.

Really disappointing prepatch. I regret resubbing. Devs should of implemented some gear catch up or removed upgrades so we can just test out the new classes in pvp.

Mage is difficult to be effective with, especially in uncoordinated content.

It’s a shame that spoils of war was removed. Everybody can super easily push rating in shuffle now, but it takes a fairly large amount of play to actually upgrade everything, and we have mere weeks until we leave this all behind.

find a friend in the 50-59 range and do bgs with them.

I have a full time job, i wont be able to gear up on top of getting 10k honor per piece in the next 2 weeks. You say mage is difficult but i have enough experience so i should be able to do fine in casual bgs. The gearing in prepatch for PVP is terrible for returning players. Stupid honestly for a time where people should be experimenting with stuff.

Oh, yeah, even I wouldn’t be able to gear up in this timeframe. Honor gain is just too low.

It is, and they should’ve jacked up honor/conq gains by like 200% or something.

They should of removed upgrades would of been fine. Then people can at least test out stuff or just equalized gear in solo shuffle.

I am not doing solo shuffle with 270 ilvl i will just end up getting trained down each match.

Waiting until the Nov 15th patch before I start to solo shuffle a bit. They’ll be some pvp nerfs for warlocks and Demon hunters. And tanks will be somewhat limited in their queue compared to now.

By then I should be in 270+ gear. Not the greatest, but at least decent enough to get some wins.

Yeah, another thing that Mage isn’t exactly suited for. :face_with_spiral_eyes: Miserable matches.

I think that this is something they should’ve experimented with in s4 seeing as they’re doing it in DF. Pity nobody wanted to do the work and s4/prepatch just requires gearing. Tedious, tedious.

yea my gear was from 2k or 2.1k rated one season ago before i quit. I am surprised its so trash already. Me and a friend just got 2.1k real quick and got bored of fury warrior or warlock every game so played a different game!

Duelist (bis) is the same level as honor gear the next season. It’s one of those “everybody is now back on equal footing, but people who played well don’t have to catch up” things.

What’s rough is (was?) uncapped conquest.

I’m at 268 ilvl with my shadow priest and do okay. I know it’s only random 2v2 arena skirmishes, but I’ve been winning 50% of my matches. The most problems I have are against marksman hunters, warlocks and the assassination rogues.

Hopefully all these arena skirmishes will get me prepared for solo shuffle next week.

Yea in Bgs my main issue is with hunters as well. Historically this is always the case as they can interrupt me and i cannot interrupt them or stun them, between mage\hunter, but the gear difference makes it enough that they can kill me so fast i cant even get a global to click alter time.

Feels like I regressed going from battlegrounds to arena skirmishes. Everything moves so fast in arena. You don’t really have a lot of time to think. Most of the time I’m stunned and only have two options as a spriest: Dispersion or my trinket. But after that is where I get confused. Most of the melee are immune to my fear, can easily break my root, or just charge right back on top of me with the million gap closers at their disposal. So it’s not like breaking the stun will give me room to cast anything. I’m often countered out of shadow and end up casting flash heal 3 times or a few mindspikes for no damage. But by then I’m most likely dead. I was hoping gear would help a bit, but so far that’s not the case.

I know it’s only random arena skirmishes, but I figure that’s the best place to practice for solo shuffle because queues are fast and your partners are random. So if you can’t survive in 2v2 it will only be worse in solo shuffle 3v3 LOL.

its a bit of a learning curve jumping into arenas i agree. ive purposely avoided anything arena related my entire wow experience so im having to learn line of sight spots/positioning for all the maps. for the most part by the second round of rated shuffle it’s easy to see who the weak link is and they get focused the rest of the match.
i cant pillar hump and im not ashamed to say it.

No caster is suited for that except maybe Druid who can stay in stealth. Every game you get trained by melee. Jsut hope there is a caster of lesser health in the 6 players so
that you are spared

It…kind of depends. I think that Balance and Shadow are fine, along with Warlock. Elemental has a lot of really horrific matchups but is somewhat versatile but Mage has a fairly strict way of playing, at least the standard playstyle. Maybe Arcane in DF will be fine.

Being the lone caster is, in general, rather unfun, though.

No gear balance druid gets its head kicked in. Shadow might be fine because they have fade, dispers, stuns, fears, roots and silences. Druid does not have the immunities and quick easy CC like shadow does.

Balance kind of lives or dies on clones. It’s an oddly finicky spec despite being kind of basic.

I’ve noticed mages are just food for me lately. Blizz should take a look at them. They get to be S+++++ a lot, but I think they’re too weak right now.

As far as catch up gear, I didn’t play SL until it just recently merged into the base game. Took about maybe 8 hours to get to the renoun cap which is 3/7 upgraded honor gear. Of course, locks are overtuned still right now, so that probably makes our experiences much different.

Plus, if you just came back then you probably, like me, don’t have any legendaries or a conduit. Everyone else does so that’s not helping things. I’d say wait for the actual DF launch to really see how it fleshes out.

Well if you want to know, after you upgrade your honor gear to full you can start doing arena to grind conquest, after you have full conquest gear to upgrade that conquest gear its over 110,000 honor to fully upgrade all of it. Keep in mind honor gear is easier to upgrade than conquest gear.

Math wise Arena skirmish is the fastest way to get honor with bad gear if you have a friend and can get a 80% win rate (1360 honor per hour or 1592 from random epic bgs if you can play 2 in that hour with at least 1 win) . So do the math, it takes a dam long time to get geared for prepatch just to test out a spec.
