As title states, I’ve been wanting to return to SoD & get a fresh start perhaps.
Looking to get the communities opinion on the most sought after class/spec for raiding. I am opened to any class/spec combo, and will play either horde or alliance I’m not picky.
Additionally, I am mainly a PvPer in retail - from my research it would seem most classes require raid gear to be decent in PvP, is there any classes that wouldn’t require this & be good just with ranking gear? I have my doubts based on the stats & tier sets I’ve seen but always good to get new perspectives

Most classes are pretty effective in some capacity in PvE. The only thing I would say to avoid like the plague would be Paladins if you’re alliance, unless you’re planning to heal or possibly tank. It’s flooded with ret paladins so you’re going to have a tough time getting groups. Boomkin is currently sought after in PvE and broken in PvP so that is a possible option. Low skill ceiling as well.

PvPwise you have shaman, paladin, hunter, boomy and rogue doing pretty well. Warrior is big when healed too.
Not too sure about shaman and hunter but paladin truly shines only when he get set pieces in PvP (6pc t1 and 2pc t2 or 4 pc t2 or the ZG set for shockadin).
I’d say boomy and rogue are the least gear dependant. Rogue will remain squishy any way and it truly shines in 1v1 where he can reset and cc a lot, boomy has so much damage atm that you start big when you ding all the way to completely busted when fully geared.
