Returning To Retail. Need help

I’m returning to retail a little bit more seriously to play with 2 friends who are first time relatively new to arena PvP. I’m fairly clueless as to what one needs outside of honor / conquest gear to be as successful as they can when first stepping into arena.

A lot of my friends are not PvP players, and when i ask them questions, are also in the same boat as me. So I’ve come to ask some questions to the arena community.

To be as direct as possible.

Will the Delve belt be bis in pvp?

Will Mythic dungeons and converting some of the pieces into tier be required for pvp, and if so, is there a way to make their item level higher for pvp instances?

How does crafted gear in conjunction with pvp work? Maybe i’ve searched using the wrong words, or maybe i don’t understand it at all. All i know is someone needs to craft something, i need honor reagents, that are BoP?? And i can upgrade them? The whole thing confuses me.

How important is doing PvE activities like doing mythics, delves, and raiding to be successful in arena? Ideally we don’t have to do anything that isn’t farming honor / conquest to be successful. But i’m not convinced so far.

Our goal is 1800 in 3v3. I’ve been keeping up in pvp on classic and getting 2200 every season fairly easily, but only because the game isn’t complex to the scale that retail is. So i know 1800 shouldn’t be terribly hard, but at the same time, it seems pretty daunting. Where to even begin.

your skype profile pic from back in the day made me vomit bruh

nah

go to the crafting order place and see what materials you need for the algari gear and then buy heraldries from the pvp vendor so your craft has pvp ilvl

dont need to do it at all

Thanks for the quick reply.

What a time to be alive. Fortunately, i’ve grown quite a bit since those days. Younger me would be disappointed.

I’ll take a look at that video.

I’m glad that PvE isn’t required. Blizzard do be loving that - Making people do both

Don’t need to PvE at all however, you can convert PvE tier set pieces to have PvP scaling via Conquest items that can be purchased on the vendor.

It’s a bit overwhelming at first but I promise it’s super simple, you purchase reagents called heraldry on the vendor then go to a crafting post & have somebody craft it for you using those & the reagents they list there.

All you need to worry about is getting the mats required (you can track reagents needed) & finding somebody to craft it (which you can put it up as a public order & somebody might just take it without you asking.

Make sure to use drustvar, check pvp or another site to check on what embellishments (borrowed power, you can have 2 crafting pieces with embellishments on at a time) you need + stats (algari missives on AH they have stat combos you use as reagents for items such as haste/vers) (these can be purchased on the AH)

My fiance & I got her 1st & 2nd 1800 this xpac, granted it was in 2s but it shouldn’t be too bad inflation is starting to kick in & starter mmr is around 1900 iirc.

Doubtful. Think they pre nerfed it in PvP. I don’t even know what it is

No you can convert pvp gear off the vendor to tier pieces

You go to the pvp vendor and get the purple conquest currency from the first page and you add that to the crafted piece. This will make it scale to max ilvl in pvp combat

Not really. You will see some people use them in tournaments on the tournament realm but I don’t see anyone actually grind PvE on retail to PvP

There’s more cds on retail to keep track of but cc is in general more micro and instant rather than the long cc you are used to on cata.

Yeah bro I’m expecting more than ONE person to reference him being an old head.

Would you prefer if I said, “Only one person here knows Alphonce???”

???

No

No

Yes, the conquest vendor has an item that increases the pvp ilvl of a pve piece.

All algari competitor gear can be upgraded to max pvp ilvl with the conquest “heraldries” also at the vendor.

Honestly it’s an estrenely small min/max and not at all required.

Technically not at all. However, being able to do a perfect pve rotation is pretty important nowadays, so make sure to brush up!

Good luck! If you need any more tips, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Naw, wasnt trying to kick the beehive with you. Since “do people here” is kind of a blanket statement I thought maybe you either didnt get the skype reference or just missed the post. No beef intended from my end.

Not sure my memory can be trusted going back this far, but I really wanna say Alphonce played some with the boy Zowrn. I’d bet a $1 on it, but not confident enough to bet $10.

Is he the guy who made the meme “You pet nova, i trinket”?

I definitely remember his name. Not sure if i played with him though. Wish i got to play with more people back then. I mean, i played with a lot of people, but wish i had played with a lot more.

Huh I haven’t seen your name in a minute

It’s like 50-80% nerfed or something, ilev capped, no secondaries, so yeah F tier for anything other than maybe spinning a base in cc for blitz which is very niche.

Yeah that was him, Cata & MoP era iirc, but I cant remember why I went to the store half the time anymore. I played a pissload back then, but so many of the memories have faded =(

Honestly I have NO idea. I didn’t pvp until BFA so I have zero idea about anyone prior to that except, like, talbardar, reckful, and azael?

Obligatory rip

Yeah buddy the forums in mop were absolute peak. I don’t think many still play, but you had quite a few funny moments.

You could also downvote posts and they’d just get buried, and highly upvoted posts sort of glowed, they had a fancy shiny background to them.

They were INFINITELY more toxic than today, because back then there was 0 moderation for real. But it was still interesting, and you’d find partners on it for real.

You’re still an old head bro, whether the calender says it or not, in spirit 100%

Coming in in BfA you missed the best part of PvP - fire up the booter! (courtesy of skype not hiding IPs by default).

There was a time when the forums where, and maybe they still are, far more interactive with a good size group of people. This was easily Cata through WoD for me, at least, when i was most active on the forums. Probably daily, or every other day at some points during that time.

A time when you could recognize certain posters, good or bad, because they posted a lot. There was easily at least a dozen of us haha. And most of us i feel like, typically held in good faith discussions about pvp, what blizzard could do to be better at making the game better, and sometimes just ridiculous banter that brought flavor more so than it did trolling.

It certainly was a different time. Then over the years, you start to see less and less posters, myself included. It reminds me of the “last logged online 2,543 days ago” meme. You don’t realize how good the time was until it’s gone. At least, that’s how it felt to me. Even if i never personally befriended every single one of them, it was still nice to see the same posters.
