Hey guys! Coming back after a long break and trying to decide on a main for shadowlands. I made a post before I quit a while back asking this question, but now that alot has changed I figured I’d ask again. I tested out all the dps classes and decided between mage or hunter to play. Both feel really solid to me, I’m just not sure which to commit too. Can you guys give me some tips and opinions on this? Pref people who have played beta and messed around with the end game systems?

Both Hunter and Mage are in a decent position in regards to the raid and dungeons.
Both specialisations have two specs that are both A and B tier in both raids and dungeons and ranged overall is looking fairly favourable in regards to DPS for most Shadowlands encounters.
I’d say if you enjoy the ABC -always be casting, Mage and MM would be your best bet). MM in particular is very good at this. Frost mage is absolutely balling in both M+ and raiding. Beast Mastery would be a good spec to go for if you want a more relaxed pet-heavy class.
Personally I’m actually going for another ranged class - Balance druid. Not as good as Mage or Hunter but I like the way it plays out.
What spec did you try out as Warlock?
I tried all 3 lock specs im just not a fan.
An important factor is are you a solo player or not? do you love keys? arena rating?raiding etc both of these classes are great at all activities, but some specs are heavily group dependent, at least fire mage. I love mythic plus and playing solo but I couldn’t pick fire mage because they are only good in premade groups, so I had to one trick arcane which i was okay with because its my favorite theme of the class and i was still able to get decently high IO. over all though hunter is probably the safer bet all around, not much of a hassle to play the class and BM is always going to be nutty in high keys/low key farming/raiding/ease of solo content because of their on demand burst and utility.
I plan to do raiding (hopefully if i can i wanna get into a CE group) and some M+ at least getting my rewards a week possibly push some if i find a decent group. I wanna maybe do some arena with a buddy but idk how serious id be about it. as far as dailies and stuff go I usually am a solo player but im sure i could do daily quest etc with either which is why this choice is hard haha.
As for specs for them I really enjoy Frost mage and MM hunter, but I’m fine playing Arcane or BM. Fire in its current state isnt cool for me and survival doesnt exist for most people right?

Haven’t heard of survival before. Sounds strange. Is it when you take everything from a hunter and tell it to survive?
A big thing for me was having on demand burst DPS/minimal ramp up time. Having to cast things to do damage in open world content/lower tier keys while farming BiS items was too awful of an experience for me. Arcane mage was really good at this when I was subbed and grinding IO, Arcane Orb into Arcane Explosion spam and Arcane Barrage and everything is dead lol.
Yeah I can see how casting could be annoying in situations like normals etc where stuff dies super quick before your cast go off lol
