Good day all! me and several friends are returning after being away a year or more and I always loved my Demon Hunter. Can anyone update me on current state of the class and ideas for the best skill/builds currently? I always enjoyed the combinations that allowed my to stay in demon form longest, but also want to push out some of the best numbers and survive well. Any thoughts, ideas and help is much appreciated! thanks!
Recommend checking out the Wowhead guide for full details.
However, the TL;DR is: get 3x Furious Gaze, 1x Eyes of Rage, and then any two of Revolving Blades, Thirsting Blades, and Chaotic Transformation. Once you have at least Eyes of Rage and 1-2 Furious Gaze, use a 231x2x1 build. You’ll be spending around 50-60% of your time in demon form, with 60-75% uptime on Furious Gaze. Stack crit and versatility. Haste is ok, but devalued by Furious Gaze. Mastery is complete garbage.
Rotation is pretty simple, simply use Immo Aura on CD, Eye Beam on CD (unless adds are spawning within the next couple seconds, but don’t delay it more than a few seconds for that), Blade Dance on cooldown, Chaos Strike if you have fury, Demon’s Bite if you don’t. Whenever you’re low on Fury and Eye Beam has more than about 3-5s remaining on on its cooldown, wiggle back and forth a foot to pick up any souls you’ve spawned. You’ll generally want to avoid moving otherwise, to avoid picking souls up when Eye Beam is off CD or you’re near max fury (though of course, move out of bad still, it’s clearly worth the relatively small DPS loss to not die or wipe your raid).
For Corruption, aim for Infinite Star for single target, Twilight Devastation for AoE (though Twilight Devastation isn’t terrible for single target), with Gushing Wound and Lash of the Void (which comes from Ra’den’s fist weapon) being solid runners up to both.
For essences, the top is Condensed Life Force, but since you missed 8.2 (I did too >.<), that’s out of the picture unless you want to spend time farming Palace for the drops. Without it, recommend Breath of the Dying, which comes from the new Invasions content in 8.3. Once you get it to Rank 3, it is actually exceptional, and can actually overtake CLF if you can snipe CD reductions on high or low HP targets, and even better if you can snipe kills with it for the damage bonus and CD reset.
For minors, use Crucible of Flame (comes from simply leveling your neck). For the other two minors, it depends on what content you’re willing to farm. You’ll need to do Nazjatar content to get flying anyway, so if you’re going that direction, Memory of Lucid Dreams (comes from follower experience in Nazjatar, basically doing dailies. Takes 16 days of dailies to get rank 3, less if you find or acquire some of the XP boosting items). Purification Protocol comes from Mechagon rep, which you also need in order to unlock flying. There are a few other good ones you can farm, but they take extra work that doesn’t directly tie into unlocking flying.
