I Haven’t got on in roughly a year and was starting to get that itch again. How is the game feeling these days? I’m not sure what patch I left on or what patch is current. Main reason I stopped was that the content felt like required buisy work just to stay relevant. I have a hunter, warrior and paladin.
Would love some current content feedback, thank you!
You will hear a lot of varying opinions on if its good or bad. A big over all feeling that I have seen is that people feel a little frustrated with some of the grinding features right now surrounding anima. Unless you’re super on top of it , you don’t always have a whole lot and it can take a bit to upgrade things. But, on the flip side, people who are really active with things like dungeons and raiding and enjoy that sort of thing, are constantly capped out. Just depends on how you play and what you find enjoyable from what I’ve seen.
My advice is to simply check it out for yourself and avoid too much social media opinion or any wow content creators. A lot of these people, while informative or not, can sometimes over saturate our minds on how we should feel about certain things or just an over bombardment of negativity.
I’d say you’re actually returning at a good time, because the latest patch was finally announced and you’re closer to playing when that will drop then other people who have been waiting some time. Flying will finally be allowed to with Shadowlands, which is something I’m actually desperate for at this point.
So check it out, do your own soul searching and cut off too much outside influence for a bit until you’ve gotten a feel for it.
And, don’t forget all the other things you can do in the game as well. Take a break once in awhile and do some mog runs, collect toys, battle pets. Things you’ve been wanting to do to fill in the times you want to take a break from current content stuff.
The catch up mechanics on renown for covenants is nice and you can gain renown threw leveling 50-60. The covenant campaign and anima collection will get you to entry level gear for raids and mythics.
My goal is usually to get “good enough” gear so this current system has worked well for me. Especially since I generally play a healer and can get away with having okay-ish gear because no one cares as long as no one dies. So I don’t have the same problems when it comes to competing on DPS charts like DPS players have and things like that.
I haven’t been too thrilled with solo content this expansion. World quests and callings got old and the Maw ran out of compelling rewards after a few weeks. And then as a collector I’ve never had less fun collecting cosmetics. The anima grind is tooth-pullingly painful.
But as for group content, I’ve really enjoyed running keys and raiding. For a while during COVID when I was a depressed grey blur of a human bean, raid nights were the highlights of my week.
That said, having a friendly, helpful guild to run this stuff with is very important to making the content 100x more enjoyable in my eyes.
I think the busy work is much less than it was in Legion and especially BfA, especially if you only really want to play one character. To get a character started, you have to grind out Torghast for several weeks to level up your legendary, get your Renown to 40 by doing stuff for your Covenant, collect your conduits from various dungeons (Basically old talent points), and, you know, actually gear up the traditional way. However, once you’re done with that, you’re done - your character is at maximum effectiveness and you really never have to do it again. There is no permanent power grind like there was in previous expansions.
The only catch is that you have to do all of that again for every extra character you want to play.
If you’re at all interested in wow, I would join now - as was mentioned, the patch is about to drop next week, and the game is becoming more and more seasonal to match the overall trends in the gaming scene. The most fun to be had is in the start, when you’re on a more even footing and there are more people of all skill levels to group up with.
As for classes, hunter is not really great at the moment unless you like Beast Mastery pvp, but the next raid features Sylvanas Windrunner, who will drop her bow as a legendary item on all difficulty levels which will give you a new themed ability.
Warriors and paladins are both fine to above average depending on what spec you prefer.
I’m really loving the posts in here, and though mine might be a bit of a footnote, I’m eager to try my hand at volunteering my opinion. I am of course not a new player, but returning as well, and this will be my first time posting on the boards. Welcome back to the game!
From my own experience so far with just hitting 60 and starting the grind, I’ve found that it does give me some flashbacks of endless daily quests and rep grinding, but it’s not nearly to the point where it was for the Nightborne and whatnot. If you follow your Covenant quests, you’ll actually get some pretty decent gear, you gain Renown quickly, and yes, Anima is the worst of the grinds so far, but it’s not bad if you like to do dungeons.
My best advice would be to find a good guild and group of friends you like to do content with. You’ll whizz by without thinking too much about the really grueling things, and the game’s experience is really enhanced when you’re not alone. WoW, for me, has always been about the community.
SL is not much about lore, factions and warcraft. This expansion is like some mass effect style game. You can get geared in 2 ways.
PVP arenas are hard to climb because carries out gear as you came late. CR now is hard to climb , I think most people can’t break 1500, good players will but still struggle because 227 people sitting there in 1500 cr carrying others when you are like 209 gear.
RBG , tons of honor farm and conquest. More fun less stressful.
PVE, just like other expacs, get mythic dungeons done, vault gives you 3 options at Tuesday to pick one of the items.. There are some extra quests for doing 3 mythic dugneon or something and gives you extra gear…
Thats about it for now. This is good realm so you can find guild and they will explain rest
