Once again, why do you think that RMT gold just exists in a bubble of GDKP’s?
I feel like gdkp is the opposite of what makes an mmo an mmo. Work for gear. Buying pieces because you don’t want to put effort in is just…yeah. Wrong genre.

GDKP was always in the game, instead of using a non monetary system (DKP) people are using real life currency like USD ect ect.
Having your feelings hurt cause you can ether play this game 24/7 or get lucky with rng is pretty dumb.
It’s the most successful and competent way to run pug raids. It’s okay if you don’t understand.

Returned to the game briefly, did LFD and SFK. Tanks jumps down into the courtyard and pulls the entire thing. And I freak out and say, wtf, only to watch all the mobs just …melt.

I 100% agree with you, however I at least understand.
Raiding and gearing It’s meant to take a while, but the community that plays today doesn’t have time to invest in their progression and most have a childlike mentality of they want what they want and they want it NOW. I don’t do GDKP’s, I refuse to. I’m playing an MMO where the intention was always suppose to be to put the time and effort into progressing content and progressing your character. This is just my personal playstyle. I don’t hate GDKP’s, but I do hate that they dominate the game. Unless I raid with a guild, it’s likely I won’t be raiding. Pug SR’s or MS>OS are not impossible to find, but they are very few and far between.
GDKP’s are popular because it gives geared players a reason to keep raiding. It attracts the good players who have good gear and that are competent, and weeds out the bad ones. It’s more likely that you’ll have a pretty smooth run when your run is full of well geared and competent players, with only a few scrubs as oppose to most pug SR’s or MS>OS who are missing gear slots, don’t speak english and can’t follow instructions and are pulling DPS that my level 54 RESTO shaman is capable of.
People also value their time a lot more than their money, and while sure some people are using gold they got through legit means, often times, GDKP’s are filled with people who have RMT’d, and are exchanging illegal gold for gear. Why? Because it was easier for them to swipe their card and get all their gear in a short time frame then to spend weeks and months getting gear. All GDKP’s require of you is that you have gold to spend.
Normal MS>OS and SR’s are rough now because all the competent players choose to go to GDKP’s to have a smooth run and make some gold, and the left overs form pugs. These left over pugs often spend at least an hour + filling, a good portion of players won’t even be able to speak english and follow instructions, they often aren’t even wearing gear that’s FOR THEIR Spec/class, they don’t pay attention and are pulling garbage numbers of the meters.
Even if you kick out the baddies, you’re almost guaranteed to get another scrub to replace them. I did a kara run 2 days ago that took us 4.5k hours. Both tanks were pretty much just p1 gear and 3-4 dps were UNDER THE TANKS… pulling less then 400 DPS at level 70. We wiped on trash just getting to horseman TWICE cus the tanks were garbage, and wiped on nightbane 4 times because healers ran oom since the boss wasn’t going down quick enough. We cycled through about 8 people that night kicking out the scrubs and replacing them, only to get another scrub. Only reason we cleared was because we lucked out and a T6 rogue with double warglaives came to carry.
TLDR: Good players are going to GDKP’s, leaving the scrubs to form their own pugs that usually take 2-3x as long and 75% of that pug are newbies or trashcans. People don’t have time to play the game the way it’s meant to be played and thus, GDKP’s have taken over. You really have to play detective when forming pugs now. Not only do you have to do a gear check, but you have to check logs before inviting someone because gear doesn’t mean they are a competent player thanks to GDKP’s.

Buying gear off a store shop you would have an argument, but forming up in a raid and killing the boss, not so much.
Guy, most buyers can sit in a raid and afk because they’re buyers. That’s not putting in effort. They are not making any reasonable contribution to the boss fight even if they do participate because they likely aren’t even a geared enough or skilled enough player to be in that raid to begin with. That’s not effort.

Even so, it doesn’t sound any different from getting someone’s main to run lowbies through dungeons and get all the gear. That has definitely existed since Vanilla.
Guy i been doing hundreds of gdkps, even the buyers help.
I have yet to be in a gdkp where we had an afk buyer.

Umm…that is how eve works. the gear is there if you ahve the coin.
the way it works is in eve you focus on making new builds not spending 6 months gettting the gear. think of an idea…buy it. Then go have fun with it.
as you spend years in passive training. A pita. I wasn’t done my main comfortably done for sub caps for say 4? years. then capital trainings lol.
so they balance out tht bit with at least you can run your faction/deadspace fits in the meantime.
also gdkp for non buyers is work.
some of you seem to be confused here. they have the same “gear score” need. they wave parses around. these ahve to be good.
all this does is have one lucky person not run BT for months. waiting for 2 warriors and rogue higher on priority list before they even come up for next drop.
this was say… 1 month. 3 weeks lost bid war or no drops (Illidan does not increase drop rates for gdkp…he doesn’t take bribes lol). won the 4th.
its still 4 complete runs…with pretty parses too. they did good. they worked. the did not do the tedium if 3 months waiting for their spot to come on LC list.

I remember looking back when I was still playing… 20+ years to learn everything.
back when the parents were still around I put these in the qeueue before my month longish trips I took back to the states.
Gone most of the 30+ days…made it not feel so bad lol.

Because blizzard failed to police their game and enforce their TOS/EULA for pretty much 2-3 years straight. Botting and gold selling has basically operated with impunity since the start of classic vanilla. They have maybe started to crack down a little bit more, but it is still lightyears away from what they should do or should have done to combat it. GDKPs would have still been around, but it would not have been as extremely prevalent as it is now and the amounts of gold spent would not be so egregiously large. They should have implemented the anti-boosting changes within 3 months of Classic’s launch.
isn’t that most important part of community in mmorpg. Remove randomness with people and you might aswell replace them with silent bots (though DBM and WA already doing that)
