Returning player with questions about endgame

So I played regularly in vanilla,BC and to cap in Wotlk . At the time I fell off and while I shortly played each expansion (other than WoD) to cap I never did much after. Recently I decided to play again but when I look stuff up to do at 120 it’s an overload of information. I see people talk about Mythic + , Pearls and a bunch of other stuff that I have no clue about.

Is there a linear list of objectives I should focus on ? I think I understand the order for iLevel but with the new patch a lot of older videos aren’t totally accurate since they released when BFA was newer or the newer videos are focused toward people who have been playing regularly through the expansion already.

Shadowlands looks extremely fun to me and I’d like to use the time between now and then to familiarize myself with what WoW has become and priorities for endgame before raiding.

So, the general order you’ll want to do stuff in if you’re looking to gear up ASAP would be:

(1) Unlock world quests. (It looks like you’ve done this.)

(2) Go to Naz’jatar. Once world quests are unlocked, you should have the quest for this pop up. Looking at wowhead’s profiler, it looks like you turned in that quest “The Warchief’s Order” but haven’t completed the opening chain. Here’s a wowhead comment that lists all of the quests for it so you can figure out where you left off.

After you open up Nazjatar, you’ll get a quest from Magni (he’ll show up in Nazjatar) who will give you a quest chain to open up Essences. This chain will also significantly boost the ilvl of your neck. (And bump its artifact level to 50.)

(3) The opening quests for the current content will become available once essences are unlocked. (You’ll get a pop up quest to talk to Valeera Sanguinar.)

Just as a note, some of the new content is a bit rough at lower gear levels. So, before you start on the new stuff, you might want to go back to Nazjatar and do a bit of questing there. Pretty early on you’ll unlock the benthic gear vendor. (Which sells ilvl 385 gear tokens.)

You’ll also get a quest to upgrade the free benthic piece that you were given as a quest reward. You can actually hold off on doing the upgrade and use the mana pearls you get for the quest for 4 pieces of benthic gear. That should let you fill in your current gear a bit and let you head into the 8.3 content in better shape with pretty minimal effort.

So I did the quests to get to Nazjatar (Thanks!) , is my focus going to be on questing there until I can hold my own in Uldum? Should I worry about doing world quests on initial islands, war front missions ? I’m sorry there is just so much stuff that demands your attention… it’s a lot compared to back in the day when it was a tad more linear even if you had been away a while.

It’s going to depend a bit on your goals, so you’ll need to prioritize your time based on that.

Emissary quests will always give a nice chunk of rep which is useful if you want to unlock flying (or some of the allied races.) The rewards themselves for the Emissary quests are quite good (especially the gear rewards) and they aren’t too time intensive to do. So, they are worth keeping up with. Emissaries are up for 3 days each, and when the oldest one hits 3 days, it will be replaced by a new one. You can mouse over them on the world map to see how much time they have left.

As you’re doing your initial gearing, it’s also useful to check world quests beyond the emissary requirements for gear upgrades. (Especially for the harder to fill slots like rings and trinkets.) The level of the rewards scale with your average ilvl up to a cap, so the rewards will grow with you for a while. (I can’t remember the current cap offhand.)

Islands are good for AP, but you’ll get plenty of AP just doing the regular content. The main draw to them right now is the cosmetic stuff.

Regular warfronts are probably most useful for collecting the transmog sets. The time investment and the random nature of the rewards will make them less efficient than just doing the new stuff. Heroic warfronts require an organized group. I’m not sure how their rewards stack up, but unless you’ve got a group to run with, it’s probably not something I’d prioritize.

Thank you so much! I had literally no idea what to do earlier and I have a much better grasp on what I need to do and what I should do based on my goals.
