So I am coming back from a 10 year break from retail, the last time I played being WoD Years went by, heard good things about Dragonflight, praise continued in TWW so I figured “Eh, why not lets give it a shot”.
Of course one of the big developments since I left was M+, so thats obviously one of the things I have tried leaning into the most. Keyword: Tried. I didn’t really know how they worked and not really confident on leading a group of my own so I have just been joining existing groups, and it was going decently, got up to about 1800 rating but have hit an absolute wall, with the wall being I just cannot get into groups +6 or higher, despite spending literal hours applying to groups.
I play DPS and I know groups are not struggling for choice, and I am not expecting to get into every group I apply for, or even most, but I have gotten no groups at +6 or higher. Is there some sort of hidden score or credential im missing? I’m at around ilvl 610 which is I think fairly respectable, 6/8 Heroic with decent logs (trying to work on that).
What do I do?

Theres a severe shortage of tanks, and an abundance of DPS
Your best bet, is to make an actual party and progress the keys together whenever everyone is available.
I think theres some communities dedicated to M+, and of course, guild mates.

Yeah, seems that way. Unfortunate because I was trying to avoid having to find and talk to people.

Ive tried, and you rarely get any requests to join, specially from tanks.

Reality is that in time sensitive content people will take the overgeared and people that they know. Unless you are fulfilling a needed role (healer/tank) you are at the mercy of the dungeon finder.

it’s because other DPS that is more qualified gets to compete with you for the DPS spots. Also, you might not be meta.
Someone probably beat me too this but the best way to get into m+ is to join a guild or discord group.
Be ready to learn and change because they require more effort than anything other than high level pvp and the hard mythic raid bosses

most have guilds they expect people to join but some don’t require that.
I see the problem. Don’t do step 3 or at least the first part of step 3. You should be doing bountiful t8 delves though for sure. Guaranteed champion track item for each.
But avoid the wiping part and you’ll find groups generally stay and complete dungeons. It really isn’t all that hard. Well I mean in the context of comparable tiers of content, by far mythic+ is the hardest/challenging game mode but that’s why it’s the bastion for the elite of elites but low key levels are still plenty approachable.
+6 is roughly where you start seeing upgrades from your T8 Delve Gear, so there’s just a MASSIVE glut of DPS around that range since everything before it is irrelevant.

Alot of potential reasons, however I am assuming you are trying to get into M+ on the character you are posting and what you have said so I can skip the usual (low ilvl, 0 rating, applying for keys that are high with no rating or low ilvl etc).
Some likely reasons in your case are alot of DPS are applying at the same time. If it’s a popular key or easy dungeon you can easily get 10 or more DPS applying instantly and you only need 3 total dps.
Or they already have a player of your class or spec (alot of groups generally don’t Class/Spec stack).
My only other advice is to get your own key and form your own group or look out for guildies who post in guild chat if anyone want’s to do X key with them or ask guildies if they want to do some M+ with your key (make sure they are withing that ilvl and rating range and not invite the 580 ilvl player to a +6 key).
There is a discord called “Wow Made Easy” There are probably 100+ keys ran at the range every day in the discord and no real need to talk to anyone. Just look in the discord channel m+4-6, find a group that is looking, and apply in game with the password. People are also super nice in this community and will almost always auto accept anyone that is reasonably geared.

OH, you just have to already have the gear from the next dungeon above the one you want to do drops before you can do said dungeon. No big deal… just the way its designed this season for some reason.

You absolutely don’t need that.
Because I think they made the mistake of making M0-M5 too hard such that the community is being really picky on who they bring.
I have 2600+ rating in DF, and still getting declined as a 610 IL warlock for +2…and I do them for fun.

2 IS LITERALLY easier than 0, people are just… absurd. I purposely invite lower ilvl people to 2’s though… so MAYBE lets just hope maybe people are just being nice and inviting lower ilvl ppl to 2’s??
