Returning Player, What's New?

Hello All,

Good morning. I am a WoW veteran who played this game for almost 20 years since Nov of 2004. I came in and out but I played all the expansions. I was hardcore no life on first editions of WoW from Vanilla to Wrath and now Casual who dont aspire anymore for Mythic Raiding and the likes.

I left becoz of Diablo 4. I stayed there for awhile for over a year. I just recently killed Uber Lilith using a non meta spec, finally I felt I am accomplished on that game. I never listen to guides becoz most of them doesnt get it right. And I was happy with my whole experience.

Now, I am coming back to WoW. I know it’s a great idea coming back during new expansion where everyone starts all over again; instead of coming in the middle of expansion where everyone would leave me behind. I know I am Casual now and I would still be left behind. At least, I wont be carried that much.

So what’s new? I was able to browse the new game for 5 minutes.

I was surprised that I could use fast flying on some of my normal flying mounts. And I see 4 of my toons on starting screen. It seems this game is now focus on alts. I never had much alts after I became Casual as I have no playtime to play other alts as I have no time level up another toon.

For some reason, I was able to meet a Lead Team programmer and a programmer of the game last weekend. They said they worked for WoW. We had conversation for about 5 to 10 minutes about the new expansion. They seem excited and somewhat prepared for the release of this expansion. They told me that this is a great time to return back to WoW. They talk of the Warband and some good stuffs. It reignited me to come back to WoW. I was able to suggest something for them. Since I am a Hunter Main, I ask for something new for Hunters. We got tons of good stuffs, Tmogs and Mounts (Trading Post) already in the game but I told them I want them to give us “PETS” Hunter pets as rewards. Also, they also said Chris Metzen is back. Wow, that’s good news.

So what did I miss? I have a lot of stuff to learn. I know I would be overwhelmed. This is what I want, instead of getting tired of old stuffs.

My goal is just to be contented happy… just maybe KSM and/or AoTC. Which toon should I prioritize? I love Hunters but I also played Death Knights and Warriors.

Shout out to Hunters.

Dont cry much if the internet thinks your Class/specs got nerfed especially if you are just Casual. Take note, their info doesnt cover much of level 80 powers. I know I could play the weakest spec/Class and still beat AoTC and KSM.

Just have fun. I am excited to come back. GG.

So you’re what, returning from a 1 week hiatus? lol

There’s a new buzzword you’ll hear a lot. Warband. Basically just take “Warband” to mean account wide.

Pretty much all mounts can now “Dragon Ride”, and you can also go the other way and make it so all mounts fly the classic style (now capped at 420% not 310%)

The main new feature in TWW (launching August 22nd/26th depending on how much money you spent) are Delves. 1-5 player “mini-dungeons” that offer gear rewards up to HC level raiding.

The other big feature is Hero Powers, for example Hunters can become Dark Rangers. It’s not quite as involved as you may want, but the gist of it is new visuals and 1-2 new spells for all specs once the expansion is out.

Beyond that, we’re in pre-patch waiting on a new expansion with all the new expansion stuff, zones, dungeons, raids, tier sets, dailies, etc.

Funny way of saying, “Returning player”.

I think you already know what’s going to happen. Same lag fest upon expansion launch. Same maintenance days and poor time management. Same grind we’re gonna go through similar to DF.

Same same same. You didn’t miss much.

Thanks for the initial replies.

It’s like you belittle this. Do you know how hard to bring up an alt (especially for Casuals)? Rep grind it all over again? Warband means that your Main’s reputation is carried to all your alts… no extra grind for alts.

This is super fun. I love it.

That’s great. Would be easier to do AoTC and KSM. Another way to gear up. Would work for me as Casual. It’s like Torghast in Shadowlands, the main difference is you are rewarded with GEAR. Torghast on how it was … was fun experience for me… now giving me gear with Delves? This would be super awesome.

Money spent? What do you mean? Why would I spend more money aside from the subscription?

Oh, Hunters become Dark Rangers. Well, if that’s the theme of the Expansion, so be it. Would welcome new versions of being a Hunter.

Time for me to cope up…

You need a break. It seems you’re tired of the game. Unlike me, I am super-REFRESHED. I am hungry of new stuffs.

First of all, Welcome Back! It’s good to see your name on the forum again! And second, your mog is full blown awesomeness!!!

I haven’t been playing for quite some time due to health issues, and haven’t been on the forum for near a month. Still trying to deciding where to come back to; between WoW & FFXIV. Your upbeat post kinda pushed my decision a little easier! It sounds like you’re farther ahead than me on knowledge with WoW. I do have a bit of research on my plate for sure - no understanding of trading post for example, but do know as far as getting glyphs for flying I think there is a couple you can only get in DF so you may want to check into that.

The delves and Warband with the alts seems like a steeper learning curve for me, (and harder than most people think). By the sound of it you’ve got a lot figured out already. I do love the idea of Dark Rangers though - that’s another push for me to come back! Yep, time for me to cope up too! :slightly_smiling_face:

How super cool and fortuitous that you met with a lead programmer! Wow!!! I would have asked for account wide tamed pets, especially rares though! lol!

If you know AoTC and KSM just flip through a few Wowhead pages and you’ll be caught up quickly. Caszador, post four, has a good link. You’re fine, super smart, and talented. You’ve got this! Enjoy the ride!

You left to play D4…you failed the test. Delete your account and start from scratch.

It’s good to be back.

I was surprised to meet those programmers of WoW. I want to request something for WoW but I was not prepared. When planning to return to WoW, I looked at pre-purchase options and I always see Tmogs and Mounts as additional gifts. And I am no longer looking for them becoz of thousand cosmetic stuffs in the game especially with Trading Post. It popped out of my mind, I want Hunter Pet/s in addition to Tmogs and Mounts.

BTW, Collector’s Edition is super expensive. But it has the Gryphon statue. I have Collector’s Editions on every Expansion. Looks like I am gonna push for it.

Thanks. Been with with WoW for 20 years and still kicking. It’s just I love this game. It has everything I need for a game and it keeps on improving.

I am a Diablo fan too (and StarCraft fan too). I left WoW from time to time but I kept coming back. I remember I left when StaCraft2 came in, Diablo 3, Diablo 3:Reaper of Soul, Diablo 3 Necromancers, Diablo 2 Resurrection… even left WoW Retail to play WoW Classic. I was invited on Classic Beta since I was a Vanilla player. But Retail is thousand better for me.

Even the WoW programmers I recently met, they explained to me WoW Remix:Mists of Pandaria like it’s Diablo 4 Seasons where you experience differing kind of Powers that goes away every Season… On WoW, these powers goes away when you reach max level. Most WoW players play D4 fyi.

I could return on Diablo 4 Expansion, Vessel of Hatred.

But for now, I am back with WoW.

I cant delete my original Vanilla toon, original Burning Crusade Toon and Wrath of Lich King Toon. I am happy to toy around their Tmogs which many players dont have. It came from Vanilla… not Classic.

Dont worry, I often make a new toon on a new Expansion. I want to explore what WoW Remix content has. It’s there. Why not access it? Good luck and have fun.

Sounds like you have your own question covered.

I am thinking maybe I start the new Expansion with Meta Specs for a change although I can play the weakest build.

When I talked to the WoW Programmers, I asked for a tip. Which of my Toons should I use? Well, it so happened both of them are not a Hunter fan. :worried: They seem both fan of Mage… the other one said he would play his Death Knight becoz it has an Epic engagement in the expansion. These guys are biased. ROFL.

I said to them, Hunter is my safe spec becoz I never die with it on PvE World becoz Hunters have Pet/s and has Feign Death. If I picked up a fight a Boss I realized that I cant kill, I just leave my Pet while I run away and feign death. Unlike on my DK, if I mistakenly attacked an elite that I cant handle, it’s a guaranteed Death. ROFL. They both somewhat agree with me.
