I just returned to WOW after like 5 years off. I resumed playing my main which was level 50ish. Upon logging on for the first time I was told to talk to someone and they send me on the Dragon Isle for questing and leveling. Now I just dinged 70 and received another message, saying to use a scroll that send me into a series of quests and now I’m on an whole other continent Khaz Algar. What should I do now ?
Should I got back to Dragon Isles to resume my questing there or keep doing Khaz Algar ? This is all really confusing to be send one place to level up and then at 70 being sent another complete different place.

lvl 70 you start the TWW expansion.
The approach has changed drastically, ever since Dragonflight, we have seen level squishing, and extreme boost to experience gains (More as you level more characters to 80, 5% per up to 25% as of TWW release). So, Blizzard’s encouraging new players to ignore older content and focus on the new since that’s where we are at but welcome to return to the older ones for w/e reason it may be.
Entirely up to you but typically, if you plan on doing older stuff like tmog hunting, it won’t hurt to get to max, get some easy gear that could get you close to 600 ilvl and go back if you feel like. You should be able to comfortably do Shadowlands Raids solo on Mythic, had done it myself for Tmog reasons and didn’t realize I had it set to Mythic.

Thanks, guess I’ll go back to Dragon Isles then.
it entirely depends on what you are trying to accomplish. level fastest? level 1-70 in dragonflight/timewalking dungeons.
70-80 in khaz algar/timewalking/each delve once for quest.
you will level much slower staying in dragonflight for 70-80, at least that was my experience. but it is absolutely possible if you enjoy it.
not to mention, if you care about pve or progression at all ur gonna need to do the khaz algar questline at least once anyways, would be beneficial to do that while it gives you experience
New leveling experience is pretty fun. I would go there rather than back to dragon isles.

You are going to find it difficult to fill crafting orders in dragon Isles, Furthermore all the legacy vendors are gone. My advice is to play till you are 71 and buy some TWW level 515 gear off the ah , to have enough power to kill the Dalaran bosses and then go to Dornagal.
The legacy vendors in TWW are active and there is much more to do, no contest.

quoting for emphasis–yes its best to go to Khaz algar. Its where all the new stuff and current focus is. Welcome back to the game and have fun regardless

Fairly certain it’d be slowish going from 70-71, grueling to go from 71-72, and basically impossible to level beyond that. They very intentionally drop off exp gains from content you’ve outleveled.

that’s the best part about this game is you can do whatever you like and Level wherever you please.

That’s what I’m doing now.
Got to a decent ilvl, and I’m hunting for old mogs and mounts, while queued for every raid I can in life, so I can still get more current gear
You can do which ever you wish, depending on your goals.
If you return to the dragons now, you man squeeze another level or two from the content there.
If you want to get to 80 stick in the stone dwarf zone.
You can always go back and finish older content once you cap out.
I returned halfway through Dragon after a 10 year break. I enjoyed the scenery so much that I took screenshots of everything pretty and fun and after around 8-9 months finally slowed down, with 300+ screenshots.
I LOVED dragon isles, I loved playing a dragon, I loved the new content and I enjoyed it so much that after a year I was still exploring and finding new things. I also did Panda remix and leveled 24 70’s, and from when TWW started I level 11 80’s.
I had SO much to catch up on, in the systems, the dungeons, the way to queue, even Myth’s was new to me. I’ve barely touched PVP and now I’ve started making silly videos for fun.
Which zone should you do? The ones you are enjoying
Which quests should you do? Make sure you do the campaign otherwise some things won’t get unlocked, after that do whatever you want.
How to level? You can level through questing, pvp, dungeons, gathering, crafting etc etc. If you aren’t enjoying it, try something else, though for me, slamming dungeons at the beginning of TWW on one of my tanks was the fastest and simplest, then I had bonus xp for my next toon
Have fun!
