Just coming back after last having played around early WotLK days. Lots of amazing changes!
I am going though the BfA an started to pick up Herbalism. I noticed that when I rank up it says now rank x for the location I’m in.
So when I move to a new area, will I go back to 0 again?
If so, is there any reason for me to train this up before I get to Shadowlands?
Profession are now trained by xpac from trainers located in that xpac and leveled for the xpac only. Your xpac progress in a profession, or lack thereof, has no bearing on your progress in it in any other xpac.
Each xpac starts at level 1 for the xpac profession, regardless of what you had leveled the profession to in previous xpacs. You do not have to max the level of a BfA profession to learn the profession for Legion or Shadowlands.

I have a question about the professions as well. Like to OP I haven’t played in awhile (sense legion for me) so I started up a demon hunter for my new guy and I’m playing the BFA stuff, I grabbed leatherworking and skinning got enough mats to get my kul tiran leatherworking to 25 go to the trainer to buy the next armor pieces and there not there now and it list stuff for rank 50 so I look in my leatherworking stuff to see if I just auto got the recipes and there not in the learned tab but the unlearned tab. How do I level my crafting when the 4 armor pieces that the Kul Tiran leatherworker 1st gives you are already not leveling the skill at a 1/1 rate? it took me crafting like 10 of the mail bracers to get from 20 - 25. (the 4 armor pieces are the the Coarse Leather armguards and gauntlets and shimmerscale armguard and gauntlet)
Which leatherworking trainer are you at, Ederras?
Cassandra Brennor - the leatherworking trainer in Boralus - should most definitely be training you how to craft items you can make with a skill of 25. If you are at another trainer - say the one in Nazjatar for example - then yes, they may be only able to offer you training way above where you are right now.
If Cassandra Brennor does not have anything for your skill then that may very well be a bug… I’ll keep an ear out if I hear anything further about this possibility.
Make sure you check the filters (in the upper right corner) for the training NPCs skill window. Sometimes those get set weirdly and will hide stuff you can learn.
yup I went to Cassandra Brennor I even jumped my old main from legion and grabbed kul tiran blacksmithing and the same thing is happening to him.
uninstalling and reinstalling didn’t seem to help either.
