And then this happens when you do.
You have been silenced from using this channel pending moderator review.
First get rid of players ability to report people for the hell of it.
Second, ban players that are caught making frivolous reports on the forum and game.
Third, consider increasing penalties each time it happens, so the punishment fit the crime.
Fourth, punish actual rule-breakers with account closure and police third party websites.
Number 4 is big because if you can continue to act this way outside of the game, it’s very easy to continue badgering people to the point where good people quit. It happened to a friend of mine, and I gotta say; this is one of the things Final Fantasy XIV does right.
I don’t watch the dude, but Asmondgold was being harassed by some self-proclaimed legend named Queen, who was trying to essentially get people on her server to harass him off that server.
This individual did so for no other reason than she felt she owned the server. I say that because she was also threatening anyone who welcomed Asmondgold, or who had fun with him with harassment and “blacklisting” if they dared to engage with him.
No really, that’s how mental this chick was. If you talked to him you would be harassed by her followers. I’d like to say this was isolated to FFXIV, but it’s not. The same thing happens on Tumblr with WoW.
Long story short, Square investigated Queen; found she was complicit in organizing online harassment on social media against Asmond and she was punished for it pretty heavily. I know this because it was on the forums and social media where she was howling about it like a rabid she-wolf.
That’s the kind of thing Microsoft needs to bring into WoW if we’re serious about cleaning the community up and reclaiming stuff like Trade-Chat. We can do the self-moderation thing, but we need the company to punish bad actors and eggs when they pop up.
