Returning player, totally lost

Ok, I did see icy veins and it seems pretty cool but some of the information seemed over my head. Maybe it’s because I joined so late.

The best thing to do is not listen to other random people about this ancient game and try your best to discover things yourself. You know, even as a returning player, that the transition between xpacs pretty much means the vast majority of the current xpac is pointless. So focus on things that actually engage you.

It’s a game, you’re supposed to have fun and no one here can tell you how to have fun.

Whenever I join a new game, I seek out story related quests. But that’s just me.

I usually am like that to a point and try to figure things out on my own but I am glad I got some information. If I would have read, listened to or watched a bunch of information and then find out later it was all misinformation, that would have ticked me off.

Are we supposed to believe it’s 2020 and you don’t know what youtube/twitch are?

I know what youtube is, used it all the time. I’ve heard of twitch but never looked into it as I had no reason. I’ve heard someone talk about it once and they made it sound like you pay to watch someone else play a game.

This is an EXCELLENT point. Please just try to find something to have fun.

the bit about being able to level in any zone you wish is not entirely true. if you’ve made it level 50 (or currently 120) and/or have played through BfA, then you will be able to choose your leveling experience.

however, come prepatch, if you have no characters at 50 (and possibly even haven’t played through BfA) you will be funneled into the new player experience of Exiles Reach, which is basically a tutorial and quite hand holdy. its good for new players who have never played an MMO, though. after Exiles Reach, you will be level ten. they take you to stormwind, a couple more tutorial quests for choosing your spec and learning the riding skill, and then you will have to start the BfA expansion and play through it to level 50.

I’m not sure if there are any achievements (IE loremaster for going through all the zones main story line) you have to get in BfA to make it so you don’t have to go through the new player experience again.

if you already have a character part way through levelling when the prepatch hits, but no max level characters, i do not know how this will translate. I’d be interested to find out, though.

welcome back to the game, whether you choose to come back now, pre patch, or in SLs.

Flight became a major problem for Blizzard, and during WoD Blizzard responded with wanting to remove it entirely. That backfired, and Pathfinder was brought in, which is achievement based acquisition of flying through things like reputation and such. This has since been redesigned once again in SL.

Yes. Likely less player power. We don’t know the actual reason for this, I don’t think.

Top streamer.

They released it, but in a later patch build with some reduced experience values, and such. Classic is currently in limbo from my understanding, but that’s a better question for over in the Classic forums.

Wait for pre-patch, in my opinion. The likelihood of you getting anything done now is very small.

Oh, I’m sure I will have fun once I get back into things. It’s just so different than it used to be.

1.) You can buy flying up until Draenor, when you need to get an achievement done called Pathfinder.

2.) No idea tbh.

3.) He is a very popular WoW streamer that is a huge driving force behind the Alliance community.

4.) Shadowlands has a lot more Vanilla elements than BFA thats for sure.

5.) You ABSOLUTELY should get a toon to level 120, there is an XP bonus right now and you would benefit from it.

No, you can safely ignore his existence.

No. Nothing was really changed, but it’s also nothing like vanilla in the sense that people don’t play it the same way we did in vanilla.

Well Blizzard tried WoD without flying and received a big backlash for it (on top of WoD itself being unfinished and short on content), so Blizzard made a compromise with the Pathfinder. The reward for it is Account Bound flying.

Balance possibly.

Asmongold is just the Kayne West of WoW. That’s all you need to know.

Well yes and no.

Yes, the engine and some bits of the UI are different, as well the batching, resulting some of the spells being bugged out, as well as bigger servers and some things like the black lotus (i think) being changed around, but for the most part, no, it’s more or less the same as vanilla.

The only thing that is different is everybody knows what to do in classic now since it’s pretty much the same game from 15 years ago, thanks to the information from private servers and such.

Well that’s entirely up to you. :man_shrugging:

People who are talking about flying are referring to flying in the new territory. The rest of the game flying is just like its always been. they just dont want people flying in the new quest zones. what people mean when they say you need to do a quest they mean to open up flying specifically in the battle for Azeroth expansion zone
