Returning player so confused way too much stuff

I recently came back to retail I haven’t played since the caverns were released. What is the best way to get back into the groove of things? My inventory is full of random currencies and profession items I have no clue about I’ve got so much junk I am thinking of just starting a new character. I logged into about 5 quests and quest givers following me around, new icons all over the map. I am completely lost.

I actually had this same issue in Shadowlands when I returned after the first patch released. I had no clue what I was doing.

I found the dreamsurge event and its just giving me more stuff to add to my pile of junk. It’s very overwhelming. I have a quest to do WQ in the dreamsurge but don’t know how to enter one.

Sorry if I sound dumb, I tried asking around in general chat but was met with silence. I am more lost now than I ever was with Shadowlands currencies. Should I purge my entire inventory and start over? Should I just level a new character and start fresh? :pensive:

Just go slow.

Check out something, mess around, learn how it works.

Go do something else later.

No need to feel rushed.

If you’re in Waking Shores this week, you’re in the Dreamsurge. It’s the whole zone. It’ll change to a different zone next week. So any Waking Shores WQ will qualify for you.

okay great I will try that.

Are all these old profession items and currencies besides the dreamsurge stuff obsolete? My bank is close to packed, and my inventory is a mess. That’s the main thing I am overwhelmed with.

Just vendor everything and start fresh. That’s what id do XD

:stuck_out_tongue:
Move at your pace, work on what you want to work on, you dont have to do everything at once (unless you do)

I will do my best im trying to work through my inventory and keep what is important. Not exactly fun. Next time I take a break I will make sure to clear my inventory first.

What a mess.

Yeah inventory is a mess espically if you are a hoarder and hold on to stuff from earlier expansions. (But, But, what if i really want to craft this cooking recipe from Legion? I need these falcosaur eggs!)

They seemed to try to follow FFXIVʻs high quality materials when crafting/gathering with this 1-2-3 pip stuff… But FFXIV did away with that just before DF Came out because it was making too much inventory clutter

That’s not a bad idea. That’s what I do when I want to learn a new spec or just want something to do.

dont turn the game into a chore its meant to be fun, there is no rush to the top, take your time even think about doing a few other classes or specs at same time so you only play in rested time ( i am a bit of a altoholic) i like to do 3 at a time however i have no room to do that on this account incase something new comes out, maybe a bank alt? might help, they never help me i level them and then their banks full to :stuck_out_tongue:

I just decided to start a new character. No clue where to begin I miss when things were not this messy. There’s no reason to pack all this junk into our bags. Especially for people who don’t play consistently. Quests are scattered everywhere, the map is a mess. Jeez.

Maybe I should just play Wrath.

Way less bloat.

Suffusion camps give 2 pieces of 402 loot per week. One from the cache that requires 3 epic keys, and one from the boss that’s summoned when Fyrakk’s Fury reaches 100%

Time Rifts give 1 piece of guaranteed 402 loot per week. From the final boss that you defeat after entering the portal in the middle of that area. I believe you can get extra 402 tokens by killing that boss more times, but it’s not guaranteed, and it’s very rare.

Dreamsurges offer one piece of guaranteed 415 loot per week, and farmable 402 gear. Basically any activity in that zone will give you the currency to buy the 402 stuff, but the most efficient way is killing rares once per day, and doing the fire portal event that spawns every half hour.

Anyone who isn’t confused doesn’t really know what’s going on!

same here. i just resubbed and i almost think i rather be at work than sifting through all this. all i wanted to do was bg’s so it shouldnt be an issue but… i feel like my brain is melting with all thats thrown at me. i havent even played for 2 hours and im ready to unsub again… all i wanted to do was bg’s. now i feel like i need a sturdy pair of reading glasses a hand full of addies a note book a personal assistant a spread sheet and hours dedicated to watching youtube videos… this game used to feel accessible. now it feels like im trying to get a phd with only ged training. blizz pls have mercy.

That’s why I just do the trader post. Dont have the time or care to get my WoW degree to figure out all strange things going on in this game.

Raids and M+ are the same as always. If you’re just playing gear catch-up, Dreamsurges are by far the fastest to get LFR/Veteran-tier gear. An entire zone will be part of the Dreamsurge, changing each week. Any world quests you finish in this zone, and any rares you kill, will reward you with a green powder currency you can use to buy gear tokens. Also, every half hour there will be an invasion event, where you kill enemies at a fire portal to spawn a boss, and kill the boss to get a decent amount of currency and a chance at more items. Once a week per character, you can also complete a quest to get a token for a normal raid/Champion-tier piece.

The only currency you care about aside from these two are the Crests and Crest Fragments that you need in order to upgrade that gear in Valdrakken. For the Veteran-tier gear, the first half of that leveling will use Whelp Crests, and the second half will use Drake Crests. Whelp Crests should be your first priority, and I recommend farming them by using the Looking For Group tool to SPAM the two heroic-difficulty wings of the new dungeon, Dawn of the Infinite. Each boss in Dawn of the Infinite will give you Whelp Crest Fragments and a chance at more veteran-tier gear (including pretty good veteran-tier trinkets, which the Dreamsurge vendor does not have).

BEFORE you spam this dungeon, pick up the weekly quest in northwest Valdrakken that asks you to beat 5 heroic dungeons for a piece of champion-tier gear.

Those two things (Dreamsurges and the Dawn of the Infinite dungeon) will cover all the bases and get you everything you need.

However, if you want to spread your wings a little bit, don’t forget you can also get some additional Veteran-tier from the Time Rifts that also spawn every hour just a ways northeast of Valdrakken, including a wide range of additional veteran-tier trinket options if you don’t like or can’t get the ones from Dawn of the Infinites.

Welcome to world of currencycraft

Would make a new character first, then vendor all the rubbish currencies that you can/that can be sold that is and mail the pocket change to the newly created character, and start fresh.

I’m having this same problem. Only able to play casually. I am so lost on what to do. I really appreciate the content updates but wow. I just stare at the map and log out. I tried doing secrets of azeroth and was so lost I just gave up.

10.1.7 released Dream Surges. Look for the little emerald dream icon on your world map and head there.

You can farm 402 gear endlessly and get a new 415 piece with the weekly daily.

The heroic version of the mythic dungeon drops 402 gear as well as crests to upgrade that gear to 415.

So toss it all.

If it doesn’t mean anything to you, then ditch it. If you want to get back into professions then you can farm new stuff. Just keep the items that let you upgrade crafted gear to 424.

Accept them and turn them in and don’t grab the next one. They’re just rep quests. They’re largely inconsequential unless you want to do the rep.

Don’t worry about the dragon head. Focus on the green leaf thing.

It’s giving you gear. Equip it if it’s an upgrade.

It’s literally any world quest in the zone the surge is happening in. It’s not a special world quest.

If you have higher than 415 gear, just focus on mythic+ or the raid since the dream surge is for catching up alts or returning players.
