Returning player, recently achieved level 70. Overwhelmed trying to efficiently play catch-up/reach end game

Greetings Wow Community,

As the title implies, I recently achieved max. level on my evoker. I am unsure of just exactly how many major (or minor) content patches there have been since launch, but I know I have pretty much missed at least two campaign-related quest chains. It seems like each time I point my character in a different direction, or move to a different area, there are tons and tons of side quests. My quest log is constantly filled up! (And yes, I am completing them as quickly as I accept them. Kinda. :stuck_out_tongue: ) I have still yet to unlock the mega dungeon - which I would like to accomplish, somewhat on-the-soon.

Today I was able to achieve a high enough item level to start completing heroic-difficulty dungeons. I am working my way through raid finder when time allows, to experience the first raid. (Which I missed when the masses were conquering it in real time, back when it was relevant.) There seems to be several open-world events or other tasks to do out in the zones that are on timers, and I’m a bit unclear as to which ones I should be prioritizing, if any. There also seems to be specific things/tasks I could or should be doing if aiming to “catch up” in ilvl, whether it be due to just returning, or leveling an alt., etc. I am a bit unclear of what should be prioritized with the “catch-up” goal in mind.

Most of my shining moments as a WoW player happened back in BFA, where I played a resto shaman. My “endgame” consisted of running weekly higher-level keystone mythic+ dungeons and whatever heroic/mythic raid was current at any given point in time. (Aside from helping guild mates accomplishing their goals when I was more or less satisfied with completing my own week to week.) I also fancied crafting (Enchanting, Herbing, Cooking, Fishing, etc.) and was able to make a fair amount of gold - enough to keep myself fully enchanted, plenty of consumables for when I was dungeon’ing/raiding, and plenty left over to buy my wow subscription token via gold each month. I noticed there have been some cool additions to the overall crafting system this x-pack, and I’d like to get up to snuff with that part of the game as well.

Overall, I’d like to carve a path toward regularly achieving much of what I used to back in BFA - obviously with keeping in perspective what changes/additions have been made to the game since BFA times. I’d also like to learn about what else the game might have to offer outside or in addition to the above. I pay pretty close attention to Wowhead (duh) and have been trying to answer my own questions/curiosities as I continue to get back into the swing of things, as it were. Despite that, though, I thought I would reach out to the community with the hope that I might be just lucky enough to receive some productive insight from some thoughtful players looking to extend their know-how!

Thank you so much to any and all who took the time out of their day to read this post, and I greatly look forward to hearing back! Have a great day!

prioritise dream surges , they drop teh highest ilvl gear .

As for crafting , it will take you a while to catch up , so prioritise a path that will can make you a particular item or items first at high level . For example if you go JC then I would prioritise the path for making rings first . for enchanting go to teh ZC and farm rares till you get the three enchanted crest recipie drops . Above all once you hit 25 skill level farm treasure chests , do LFR and dungeons , world events etc and you will get dragon shard of knowledge drops ( after an intial quest line ) which will gain you one profession knowledge point each . You should get a lot of these at first and their drop rate will decrease as you get higher in profession knowledge points .

If you haven’t, 100% the main campaign to get it out of the way. You can ignore a majority of the yellow ! in valdrakken. Most are lore/side quests that don’t pertain to main stuffs that may stop your progress.

If its available, knock out forbidden reach campaign asap (starting location is in valdrakken). You can ignore all the side quests there. Most are for rep, one is to unlock the vault.

After, you’ll want to hit zaralek caverns campaign. (All of the above should progress in order)

Next is rep. You’ll want to get your renown up with the major factions. Valdrakken Accord, Dragonscale expedition, Iskaara Tuskar, Maruuk… and the more painful one you need to start asap is loamm

For gear related progress. Definitely hit the dreamsurges. The base gear is 402, upgradable. You’ll outgear heroics really fast and get to choose your gear. It can just be tedious.
Make sure to do the dreamsurge weekly for a 415. The rift weekly in thaldraszus for a 415. The heroic weekly for a 415 piece.

Once you are full dreamsurge/heroic dungeon geared and got your weekly stuffs out of the way, you can start low keys :stuck_out_tongue:

And what is great about starting keystones is that you’ll get shadowflame fragments which you can use to craft op gear for minimal costs.

If you have any questions, ask away!

Main campaign(forced on first character) > intro to forbidden reach quests > intro to zerelek caverns > unlock sparks from zerelek caverns > do whatever else you want

Loamm isn’t so bad as you get a butt-load of Rep doing the Black DF quest-line. There’s also Myrrik, WQ and those tasks that glow red and give you smelly coins (though I wouldn’t count on killing too many rares anymore).

You do, but then it ends and you still have a ways to go before 15.
It can be pretty painful.
