Okay y’all, I am returning to WoW and have not played the game since MoP. A lot has changed obviously but I’m finding it a bit difficult on where I can find a good guide to what’s changed with professions. Could anyone possibly point me in a direction as to where I can find a good guide/some advice to get me started. Also if it’s of any matter I’m going to be playing a rogue this go around. Feel free to drop any tidbits of knowledge that might be helpful as well. Any response is greatly appreciated!
The biggest change after MoP is they got rid of all profession perks
… They also overhauled the entire profession system at the start of last expansion I believe to only show ‘each expac’ so you don’t have to level classic engineering to use bc/northerened or current expansion engineering, its just simply 1-75 bc engineering/1-75 northerend etc.
This is good in some ways but bad in others, its usually super hard to get those last few points now and in the case of something like jeeves, you need 75 northerend engineering to use it… JC has went down hill because armor doesn’t have a set amount of sockets on it normally, it can just spawn randomly with a socket now so JC’s make more gold sellings rings/amulets as opposed to gems…
Inscription sucks *** now because glyphs have been revamped/overhauled just about every expansion and for instance, my inscriptionist that had every glyph 3 expansions in a row basically has nothing now… The glyphs are only for minor cosmetic changes in your spells. They did at least give them some useable scrolls that act as raid wife mage intellect (7% int boost to raid) / and battle shout (7% ap buff) raid wide but shares the slot with the respective buff (10% from mage/warrior etc)… They also got ‘vantus runes’ which will give you a week long buff to versatility for a specific boss, good if your guild is stuck on a specific boss but not very useful if you don’t raid…
I believe they also combined a bunch of lower level enchanting mats from mainly classic… They also got rid of first aid and baked it into tailoring. Pretty much all tailoring & inscription enchants have been absent from every expansion after MoP so shoulder & leg enchants.
As far as this expansion goes, there are craftable legendaries. however, being that you are wanting to play a rogue, I’ve read that the legendary leather craftables are pretty tedious to get and require mats from enchanting making them a bit more expensive to get going as opposed to some of the others…
If you wanna see what is craftable, i’d suggest just learning it on a lower level character and peek into the tab of the profession that says ‘unlearned’ then look into the current expansions craftables…
If you love engineering like I do (almost all my toons have it) then some notable craftables you can use in the wild still are nitros/jeeves/paracute/mailbox from WOTLK, loot-a-rang from cata, goblin glider tinker from MoP, goblin glider consumable from WoD, gunshoes, there’s a water skimmer/boat I think from legion? From BFA I think the combat res consumable still works and there’s a portable transmog station consumable as well as blingatron 7000… For Shadowlands I think there’s basically only the wormhole right now, the goggles aren’t good (yet)… And all the wormhole devices still work so great way to port around content… Shadowlands also gave us like 3 more tinkers to your belt, haven’t tested them and honestly I haven’t leveled my shadow lands engineering yet, still questing with wife (lvl 59) on the last 3 chapters of venthyr…
Wowhead and other sites have guides on leveling and what you can make. I’d say in general it depends on whether you enjoy crafting for the sake of crafting, or you’re just interested in the items.
In general, if you just want the items, just pick two gathering skills to earn mats/gold and buy what you want. The main armor skills (LW/Tailor/BS) are all quite easy to max, but don’t make anything BOP.
The legendary system is not great as a crafter unless you have guild demand or were one of the few that got an early start, so maxing it out doesn’t net you much either.
Enchanting is useful but expensive to level.
So do something fun, or if you like having pots always at the ready, be an alchemist I guess.
Wow, this was so insightful! I truly appreciate you taking the time to write that all out. Now I kinda have a good feel for what’s going on. Anyways it’s crazy to see how the game has changed so much. Thanks for the advice again, cheers!
