Decided to resub for a month to come back to some pvp, and my experience atm is grinding rated with 36k hp vs 45-60k hp teams in skirmish and rated, while having to grind 80 renown levels, and conquest. While pvp is enjoyable and the new ratings are definitely a nice change (combatant I, II/ etc), opening and getting 2 shot in one stun is pretty yikes. Definitely a struggle. I did manage to get 1400 in 1 day but the constant throws due to gear and renown grind probably won’t keep me here.
I heard season is ending soon so is it better to just wait?
I mean i don’t mind the gear difference, but the catch up is crazy, especially renown. I switched to kyrian and have 0 conduits etc so I have to just slave 80 renown levels. CQ grind is easier but my build sucks without conduits.
I mean you did say in your post gear and renown won’t keep you here. But I was also speaking to everything. They made the renown slightly better if you have a char but if you are new. GL!
Nah get whatever ilvl upgrades you can now so you have less to catchup on at start of next season
You’re going to have to do the new zone for double legendary and probably pve grinding too if you want to increase your odds at tier piece/don’t want to wait 2 months to craft it
You don’t want to be even more behind while doing the new chores.
Just play a couple hours a day, primarily q’ing arena and doing weekly crap and you should be maxed pretty fast. Honor week is in a couple weeks as well.
yeah i got 1400 solo in a day so im sure i could climb but it’s not really the rating as so much as the grind, and climbing with bad gear is even more of a struggle but i get ya
yeah you just missed comp stomp which is the only way to gear at a reasonable pace.
season ending soon is true but a release date isn’t even confirmed. At minimum we’re 2 weeks out, but likely 3-4 weeks I think is what the consensus is among rumors.
only you could know if its worth it to gear or to wait.
If you did want to gear up, 80 renown is not necessary but really nice especially because you can swap between covenants freely after you get it. If you fully do the covenant campaign (few hour questline), then spammed torghasts you could get to really high renown in like 6 hours of /played.
as far as getting gear goes, you just have a really awful grind ahead of you.
dont waste any honor on honor gear, just try to get conquest through arenas and suffer. blizzard really really ruined this season for returning players or anyone who wants to play an alt.
if you returned yesterday or at all last week it would be sick, because you could get like 3k honor per hour just afking in comp stomp, but you missed it.
edit: if your horde add me, i’m trying to farm honor to fully gear my alt monk Robbo#11227
honor is easy for me, just conquest/renown grinding with bad gear is the downer, but i guess it’s just as any other season. Like going up against a 52k DH and 54k war/ret while being 36k hp over and over is just, yeah.
youre just going to have to lose to worse players until youre decently geared. no other way around it other than to suffer through spamming arenas to get conq gear.
Renown isn’t a big grind but its just sooooo so so so sooooo boring dude, but mandatory to at least fill out your conduit tree and get 200 ilvl conduits.
Just grind it out and kick butt in a couple weeks. Pvp in SL has been fun even tho both season were drastically long and many things are still flat out unbalanced.
The covenants did bring some good feels to the game even if they are silly as heck on some classes like kindred spirits and necrobanner. The soul shape and door of shadow abilities really feel great and bring an additional kiting or gap closer mechanic into pvp.
Fair enough. I think we’ll return to something similar to wod gearing albeit with the current catchup cap next expansion. Maybe they’ll make some more tweaks to current system, but hard to really sit around and hope for that.
Getting max gear at each bracket before moving onto the next is imo the most relaxing.
