Returning Player: Leathering Working

I’m still trying to wrap my head around the way professions work in SL or post-Battle for Azeroth. I am leveled in basic or general LW to 300; Outland, Northrend, & Cata I am at 75; Pandaria (which I’m working on atm) at 70. Yet learn WoD, Legion or BfA. I have patterns in my personal bank that I cannot learn, but yet I am maxed in that zone’s LW. Example: “Death-Warmed Belt”, the message is “Your level is too low to use that item”. The pattern itself “Require level 30”, “Requires Northrend Leatherworking (75)”. My character is at level 43. Why can’t I learn this pattern?

Also, I go back to Northrend time (via Chromie) & go trainers in either Howling or Borea, they have nothing more for me to learn, all Northrend patterns are greyed out, but the top left slider on the trainer say “1-100” - I don’t understand that either 1-100 of what?

Sorry to be so daft, but it just is not intuitive.

When you get a response like “Requires Northrend Leatherworking (75)” it means skill level, not character level. But, according to you, you have that much skill in Northrend leatherworking, so you should be able to learn the pattern. Are you sure you don’t already know it?

Also, you don’t need to use Chromie Time to go back and visit trainers. In fact, all trainers should be able to teach you all levels of their respective trades, along with whatever patterns that trainers teach.

Thank you for the response Gianavel. No, I have not already learned the pattern, in fact I have 11 other LW patterns (Outland & Northrend) I am unable to learn; I used Chromie to eliminate phasing as an issue; and I was already trained to max in all zones (well, Pandaria was 70) when I reopened my account. Only WoD, Legion & BfA were missing. Went to WoD to train there, have not picked up Legion or BfA yet.

Note: I have yet to purchase the Shadowlands expansion - could that be the issue?

The progress bar displayed on the trainer is for the most advanced type of LW you have trained, not the type of LW they actually teach. If you just trained Draenor LW (which maxes out at 100 points), all the LW trainers will display “1/100”.

Just to be clear, when you talk to the trainers in Northrend they don’t offer to sell you “Northrend Leatherworking”, right? I vaguely recall at the beginning of some expansion having to repurchase Leatherworking skills that I had already purchased once, even though the LW window showed I had maxed out that skill already. It was as if the game had trouble figuring out I had already trained them (not the individual recipes, just the basic skills). Something like that could prevent you from learning a Northrend recipe if the trainer is still offering to sell you Northrend LW.

Thanks Tureja, I will check that out. Meanwhile I put in bug report to Bliz as I have found other characters of mine are having similar issues within other professions: alchemy, tailor, & armor.

Addendum: Northrend trainers are not offering me LW. I can still buy the LW patterns from Braeg Stoutbeard (Dalaran city Fur & Leather Trader) which are the same level requirements (eg., “Revenant’s Breastplate”) as the ones I am trying to learn. So hoping Bliz Support comes up with something tangible after the holidays.
