Hey all. To explain a bit more. I understand the how everything is designed, but curious how most competitive mythic guilds progress in raiding.
Do you start normal or heroic first? Does this change at 2nd and 3rd tiers of progression?
Normal > Heroic > Mythic or Heroic > Mythic, etc.?
I kind of have hard time “wording” the question here. Anyone with experience that could explain a timeline of how this is usually done at the start of an expansion?
…
…it goes normal, heroic, mythic
Not really sure how youre confused
I know the progression of difficulty - I am asking moreso when a guild starts progression, I know they don’t always start with normals at certain points but rather go straight to heroic at certain stages of progression when aiming for mythic.
Past two expansions they’ve done mythic/mythic+ dungeons until the raid is released, then they do the raid on heroic and more mythic+ until mythic unlocks.

Most semi-competent guilds spam M+ at the beginning of the tier to get upgrades if they need them, and then jump right into heroic. Then once they can’t get upgrades from Heroic they’ll spam M+ and progress in Mythic. Normal barely serves a purpose anymore outside of PUGs and extremely casual guilds.

Gotcha, so basically the real progression course nowadays is Heroic to Mythic, while gearing through Mythic dungeons in between. Which is what I kind of remember doing back when this was first released but wasn’t quite sure.
Here’s the way we’ve done it the last few years:
Week 1 (no Mythic available): Start on Heroic immediately, clear it the first week. If we have time, or run into a gear roadblock (unusual), then we’ll flip to clear Normal for the gear at some point.
Week 2 (Mythic opens): Heroic clear first, then start on Mythic.
We avoid doing Normal first because Normal teaches bad habits, since you can just stand in everything and still win.

Pretty much.
If your guild is competent enough to get make decent progression in Mythic, there’s really no reason to even touch normal beyond the odd achievement/xmog run here or there.
It was more common when Tier sets were a thing, to fill in holes so people got their 2- and 4-piece bonuses.
Also, recommended item level is usually 15 below what the boss drops. Some groups can be asking for “silly” ilvl though. They just want fast runs.
Your performance also matters.
