Returning player from MOP and Vanilla

Whats one tip you could give a struggling PVPer returning from a long break. I get tips in game like try this addon… well addons like omnibar just help to overstimulate when im clearly already overstimulated, i understand its important to trade specific cds but i dont know what those pictures stand for or ability names.

Thar was helpful little buddy!

I will give one of the most shameless, but unironic advice:

Use the Gladiatorlossa addon.

I also came from a long break from PVP and had no idea what was doing what so I used this thing for a while until I realized what some of the newer things do, like Shadowy Duel (which is getting removed soon anyway), demo warlock damage which gets reworked every patch (or used to back in my days), warriors having perma avatar and so on.

You’ll eventually catch on what’s burst, CC, what classes do what and when. At some point you’ll want to stop using it maybe and just use Omnibar. I suggest adding Omnibar when you’re comfortable and then transition into only using Omnibar. This took me like 2.5 months

Other than that, spam games, make an UI that looks good and works for you and watch a high rated player of your spec play blitz/arenas (whichever you’re doing) and you’ll get an ez 2100 sooner rather than later unless you’re a resto druid then you’re the victim of a screw

When watching someone play see how they avoid or recover from CC, what CDs they use
and in what order, general positioning and compare to your own.

Nameplate cooldowns is also not bad

Thanks for the advice! I tried to get gladiatorlossa to work because in cata i remembered it talked to you. I cant seem to get it to speak tho

This is pretty good advice. Way back when I had a real problem with getting poly’d on my rdruid (not a great look lmao), so I used gladiatorlossa basically just for polymorph, and the “polymorph” “polymorph” “polymorph” in my ear constantly caused some kind of pavlovian dog response, and now I very rarely miss poly’s unless they’re giga-hasted and I gcd lock myself, even though I don’t use gladiatorlossa anymore. I still sometimes almost hear “polymorph” in my ear when my peripheral catches it on the arena frame cast bar (mages were REALLY good that season - I heard it a lot)

Definitely helps drill awareness into your brain, even if it gets a kind of bad rep as a crutch or whatever. Honestly, I wouldn’t feel shame about using any addon/WA that isn’t against the tos - everyone uses them to varying degrees

Edit: I think it’s useless if you have too many different spells being shouted into your ear though the entire game, it just becomes background noise, I’d just keep it for the big/important ones if you do use gladiatorlossa

Sounds horrific. Mages spamming polymorph is why I don’t like to heal

my honest advice. unsub , uninstall immediately and dont look back seriously :dracthyr_nod:
go play marvel rivals its way more fun and no queue times

Unfortunately, you’ll probably need minimum 4 addons and depending on spec 1+ weak auras for starters (e.g., just to be on a relatively even playing field). I feel ya on the overstimulation though.

If you don’t already have all of your abilities that get used in pvp keybound, I’d start there.

If you have everything keybound already, and at least have gladius/sarena, bigdebuffs, omnicd, omnibar (minimum required addons imo) installed already, then the advice (not going to be great) is to find a chill 2s partner (easier said than done I know) and then grind out as many games as you’re able to [e.g., this is the slowest pace you’re going to be able to find, and you’ll be able to get a lot of exposure which will allow you to get the reps in and learn relatively fast].

I don’t know if it’s updated for The War Within (I stopped using it), but MesWeakAuras pack is pretty good about calling out big cds/alerting you when big abilities are used that will give you an idea as to whether you should consider trading cds.

It’s generally frowned upon (for good reason), but GladiatorLossa (also not sure if it’s updated) is another beginner friendly addon that will audibly alert you whenever cc is being used, whenever big cds are used, etc.

This isn’t necessarily bad advice lol, I actually agree with it if Octogrizzly is mainly interested in a consistently great pvp experience. If he/she enjoys the pve in wow though (e.g., classic, m+, raiding, hardcore, cata soon going into mop, etc., then I think he’ll/she’ll find that content a lot more enjoyable as it’s generally not overstimulating, at least not compared to 3s, shuffle, blitz, rbgs, etc.

Good luck to you in any case

If you’re having sensory overload then reverse course and delete your add ons. Start with the basics. Bigdebuffs doesn’t clutter your screen. Find a good place for omnibar/gladius. If omnibar has too much crap on it only enable interrupts initially by custom selecting spells.

When you lose to something you don’t understand, wowhead the cds you’re unsure about. Take it spec by spec.

I installed mes weak aura package early DF. Best thing I did was to uninstall that sht. Idk how people play with all that spaceship crap.

Simplify your game and when you’re comfortable then you can add missing information.

You don’t need your ui to look like a japanese car sales magazine. Make sure you can SEE whats going on. Positioning is stupidly important because it is the difference between someone’s spells reaching you or not.

The most valuable addon i’ve ever used has been Plater. I can share my setup with you, copy/paste if you don’t want to squint at the settings for half a day. Basically, it shows me bad guy name plates, with my dots on timers over their heads, BUT ALSO and MOST importantly, it shows me a huge icon whenever they use CDs. Bright Red for offensive, dark blue for defensive. I don’t need to know exactly WHAT they’re trying to do, only they’re trying to come at me or trying to get away, and that’s enough information to change The Plan.

Functionally you just need to know where to be and what the other guys are doing and from there you can start to learn the nuance

I agree with this and have went back to basically no addons. I got gladiator lossa up and working last night so basically gladius and gladiator lossa and had a much more enjoyaboe experience

Just play a lot of bgs and duel people until you have your keybinds and rotation on muscle memory.

Go to murlok dot Io to see what the top players of your spec are running in your desired game mode.

Watch players who play your spec and observe/ask them what to do.

For rdruid you can watch flop metaphors or dexlol123 on twitch
