I played classic for about a year and a half, quitting mid 2021, with the last few months learning the AOE farms in ZF and Mara. Learning these pulls was some of the most fun I had in the game.
I got bored recently and fired up my subscription and was thinking of leveling some characters in Classic era. I have heard that Blizz nerfed some things when it comes to mages and AOE farming but don’t have details. I’ve been searching and trying to find clear answers on a couple questions:
Can mages still aoe level their way to 60?
Can mages still solo aoe farm dungeons for gold?
Are mages still selling boosts in dungeons like Mara?
I don’t care about selling boosts, fyi, I’m just curious if they are still able to. I’m mainly concerned with aoe grinding to 60 and solo farming dungeons for gold after hitting level cap. Like I said, this was some of the most fun I had on my mage.
What would be really helpful is if anybody could list the specific changes that Blizz has implemented, specifically on Classic era, that would prevent any of the above.
They did this for seasonal servers only and not for Classic Era. AoE works the same as it did in 2019 on Era.
The only thing they changed on Era after TBC Classic released was changes to the PvP honor system. Honor caps are now normalized and no longer relative to everyone else in the pool. Honor decay has also been removed.
That’s it. Well, there’s a few bugs that pop up from their poor QA, but those (usually) get fixed (eventually).
Oh is that right? I had thought they ruined mage one-pulls like in ZF, Mara and ZG, adding zombie mobs that were slow/stun immune, and have a knockdown, changes to how experience affects groups with level disparity, and even skip and dungeon reset spawn locations.
That is correct. Boostability remains unchanged from 2019 Classic.
Any other changes other than the honor system changes are bugs that need to be fixed. If someone can correct me they’re welcome but I do believe that’s it.
Hi! Mage who also has a ton of fun with aoe, I also don’t sell boosts, but I do them for free for friends and guildmates.
You can still do every aoe spot, and in fact some more have been fine tuned since you quit. Did you know you can do a 500+ mara pull now, including orange side mobs? Beyond the 1 mage Strat UD pull with engineering, there is also a 2 mage 1 hunter aoe pull in Strat UD people do, too.
Here are some fun personal gold farms I have done that are not meta and you don’t sell them as boosts, but were just fun to learn and execute -
Uldaman Trash Farm (some troggs reset but you can clear most of the dungeon in 3 pulls with tier 2 gear)
ZF full clear minus Antu’sul, a bit of luck decides how much you want to bother, as mobs can spawn healer-heavy and its not worth those pulls
Have fun in your aoe journey! And if you like to solo things, I recommend giving priest and warlock a try! They can do some things you can’t as a much and it is tons of fun.
