Returning mage concerns

Title

I’m returning to my mage after all these years, but I’m concerned

First thing is performance in mythic+

I’m a casual player, I usually run 10-12 range. Can frost perform well in this range of keys? I don’t need to top the charts and stomp everyone, but I don’t want to be a burden on the group. Some specs just aren’t up to par and I’d rather avoid that issue.

My second concern came when this patch dropped.

A lot of the content can be done solo, which I usually do because I’m not in a guild and usually on during the late hours. Can mages hold their own solo?

Can they take on elite mobs solo? My warlock here has no problems with this kind of stuff. Normally I wouldn’t worry about it, but visions are costly if you fail, and I would like to at least complete them on my own

Also, how are frost mages in raids? I know a lot of people play fire, but I really don’t care for it’s playstyle, and would like to stick with frost if possible

Yes you can, if you want a popular streamer, Venruki does it.

Aye you can. More as frost.

Some if they can be kited.

You can pick w.e spec you want for raiding, it wont matter at all unless you aim to be part of the top 100 guilds.

Ooo I’ll look him up

I moved away from my mage originally because I’m a mostly solo player, and mages are much more fragile than warlocks.

My warlock here can solo the elite boss level mobs in the new zones, it’s very nice to have no reliance on anyone else. But everyone is in the new zones right now, so I’ve really been itching to dust off my old mage since this would be the prime time to catch him up in gear and such

Thanks for the input, much appreciated!

killing some elites, world bosses - arcane
other stuff (mythic+, raids, etc) - fire
