Return to Retail WoW?

I’ve been playing Classic WoW for awhile now and really enjoying the nostalgia of it all.

I decided to get dragonflight and try it out but I got really tired of the endgame.

Everything I did felt very grindy (not uncommon in an MMO or any video game) but the endgame didn’t strike my fancy, I didn’t really enjoy Mythic+'s beyond +20s and I didn’t really enjoy Mythic Raiding either.

I thought i’d try PvP but that didn’t seem very fun either there wasn’t much of a way for me to “practice”. I felt the learning curve wasn’t just unattractive but a literal vertical climb as nothing I learned from Classic PvP really prepared me for what I was experiencing, I felt like I had no way of really judging if I was fighting a good player or a REALLY good player as I was just dying and losing time and time agian with no real feeling of “getting better” or “learning” from previous fights.

That being said.

I really enjoyed a lot of things about retail WoW.

I am a sucker for shiny and new. Transmogs, mounts, features like dragonriding really brought me into the game and made the experience really truly special.

The story while not spectacular, was still compelling enough for me to say “yeah I like dragons, dragons are cool” without having to feel conflicted about an overly convoluted and carelessly put together story (Shadowlands).

TLDR:

Now lets get to the meat of the post.

I am planning on returning to Retail for The War Within. Though i plan to play much more casually and just enjoy the game as it comes, more like a single player experience than a hardcore grind.

Should I continue to play Evoker, the toon that I spent the most time with in DF.
or
Roll a class I was more familiar with in the past and feel I would have a more fun time playing like Paladin or Deathkngiht?

On one hand, i’ve always been a plate wearing melee class and that’s what I’ve always enjoyed the most.

On the other hand my Evoker has all my rep/faction/story/etc. progress and he’s a dragon boi who can glide and use Soar and do dragon stuff with.

Be conscious that MoP Remix is coming up, replaying Pandaria from level 10-70 with accelerated levelling and overpowered gems and stuff. People say it’s like Season of Discovery for Mists.

And at the end, you get your Remix character as a regular new Retail Level 70.

That might be an attractive way to get an alternative for TWW, and a feel for an alternative Retail character.

People do seem to divide into those who like melee, and those who like casters. Perhaps you would be feeling better about DF’s endgame if you were playing a melee class?

Obviously, only you can answer this, but considering how fast it is to level even in regular Dragonflight, and that MoP Remix seems shaping up to be fun to play, it might be reasonable to at least level up a new character and have it available whatever you decide.

Something to keep in mind is that they will be opening up other classes to Dracthyr. (I don’t think at launch, but some time later.) So, you could play something else and at some point down the line might be able to race change them to a Dracthyr. (Warrior or Death Knight would be the safer bet for plate as Paladins still haven’t been opened up to a lot of the races.)

The Dragonflight reputations will be going account-wide in TWW, so that’s one thing you don’t have to worry about.

As Grainne said, MoP Remix is a good opportunity to level something new. (After all, there are mounts and transmogs to collect.) Then you can play both your evoker and the other character in the pre-patch with TWW changes and see which one you want to take forward.
