Not trying to turn this into a “buff moonkin” or “rets are worse than druids” thread.
I believe that they’re both frustrating to play against and need nerfs, but for different reasons.
Moonkin is frustrating to play against because you know you’re (usually) in for a long game and they’re functionally a non-kill target (except for mages/rets/priests, but thats a separate conversation) which is problematic because even if you don’t try to kill them, they still can heal or clone to stop you from killing their team. However, I know I’m literally never going to die to a moonkin team before damp.
Ret is frustrating because they can win on any set of 1 minute cds regardless of the rest of the state of the game, which is infuriating.
Moonkin feels frustrating because they force a long game. Ret is frustrating because they can turn any winning/“won” game into a loss.
Edit: Definitely some bias in my opinion, ofc, because ret hardcounter moonkin (sanc/freedom for all my cc and i dont have threatening damage myself so they can offheal literally all of my damage in a go… also, they’re one of the few classes that poses a threat to druid)
Is ret actually a hard counter to boomy? I always thought we had an advantage but not the biggest counter? I don’t often talk to arena boomkins so I don’t have a good source for this
Very much so. Freedom is the same CD as roots (unless you hardcast which has some merit, but also is SUPEr easy to see/dispel)
and you can sanc bash/root beam to free the healer (on the same/shorter cd as both).
Also, like I explained above, boomy really doesn’t have threatening damage. I have dot ticks which are big dps but not threatening in a go. The MOST damage I can do is like 30k across 3 globals with 3 crits (which will happen less than 5% of 30s intervals, so unless the game is 10+ minutes long dont expect to see that) and thats with perfect setup. Because its across 3 globals, the ret paladin almost always saves himself (or his teammate) with a big healing hands wog which will get huge value.
Oh, and rets murder moonkin. I died 100-0 to a ret paladin earlier in bear form with barkskin through autofrenzy, saved by the light, and frictionless coating with nothing more than vt+swpain from a spriest and SWdeath all in 2 globals.
Every class has it’s own gimmick that’s unfun to play against. Nothing to see here, move along.
Nah, Ret pallies are by all means broken. No class can pull off the dps potential they can while having more get out of jail free cards that don’t hinder them. Rogues are the closest thing but even rogues don’t get a bubble.

Burst. Healing. utility. That’s what they got. Definitely OP for sure, but if you’re dying to sustained dps or bubble, you got other issues.
