You know whats great, the only fights they actually top are Brood and Rasz. If you look at each boss as an individual they tend to fall closer to the lower end of the top dps.

Depends on the design intention, if it’s just “Paladins do low DPS, Rogues & Warlocks do high DPS” then it’s a poor justification.
If Paladins have a buff that improves raid DPS by 1%, then you can assume that Paladins will do less damage than warlocks or rogues.
On the same token Warlocks bring Healthstones, which wouldn’t equate to a 1% damage increase but could verifiably lower their total DPS compared to someone who does not bring any raid utility.
There’s other factors like AoE damage, burst damage rotations, situational damage, etc. etc.
Retribution being top damage is definitely not an issue at face value.

And? They were garbage for years I don’t understand why people expect the same specs to be op 24:7 let others have their shine. That’s the problem with you people, only war, rogue , lock & mage r allowed to be op all the time.

Ive been a prot paly for years, and i hate it. Seeing all these other palys coming out of nowwhere just because its the new best thing. But its about time we can finally shine, now if only bear gets some love it would be perfect

Not going to lie I been having a ton of fun with ret lol. They set out to fix certain problems and they did, I do not feel like I am wearing cloth anymore, I can do decent aoe now, my button bloat is greatly reduced. Overall it’s great and I am very happy.

Top in overall raid damage. Not on the bosses (which is what matters). Sixth on bosses is pretty respectable, and really where you want to be. Not so high that you get the nerfbat, but not so low as to need buffs. Top-10 is well above average.

As a recent doomer I agree. Ret has been pretty solid overall in pve. Its actually fun to run high (for me) level keys.

If anyone is complaining I would think it should be more in the M+ side of the game than raiding. I mean I’ve witnessed some 402 or 397ilvl Ret pallys doing the same overall damage as a fully gear havoc or sub/outlaw in some dungeons. That isn’t even because they play poorly ethier, but when you have a class that continually does between 125k-410k on every pack it’s definitely hard to see its damage as not to much of an issue since all of it is just divine storm destroying things. I’m not saying I side with the “non pally lovers” but I do think their aoe especially for ret is alittle to overwhelming atm. I only tank really and honestly just seeing barely 400ilvl rets beat most people with near bis items can be a little depressing in keys. But sorry for the ramble and hope the pink class is enjoying this buff/rework.

Seeing guardian druid ignored so damn hard is honestly surprising to me. Like every other tank has some kind of damage reduction that actually feels like it’s helping and not destroying your tank class like fire vs paper. But I’ve had several instances on bear where I’ll have barkskin and it’s never “enough” for the harder hitting Mechanic’s. Most times I need to pair it with rage if the sleeper just to know I won’t get one shot. Even than I’m dreading places like Temple, AV, or NO on 22+ because I have a chance just to get one shot if I happen to not have a Survival Instinct stack up and a bad line up happens in ethier one. I’m not trying to be the cry baby for the bears but I do find it astounding every tank has been in a A-S tier standing area for all of season one going into season 2 and bear is still look down upon and rejected for most pugs because it’s always placed C-F tier in most videos due to how bad it’s defensives are into ratio of their high dps. And we’re talking about a big improved bear from shadowlands too since it can passively heal the group the best probably in pugs outside possibly protect paladin and give healers intervate. . . . Again sorry for the rant but it’s honestly a underwhelming spec right now when it’s utility and damage aren’t even the issue. Blizzard please adjust bear so “ALL” tanks can feel viable in above 20 keys <3.

Rets damage profile is incredible for M+. Their burst AoE is their strongest feature right now and they thrive on content that plays around their low 1min CDs.
Rets sustained AoE is much weaker than its burst. This is why ret falls off towards higher keys (high 20s) compared to shaman/dh/spriest.
