Hey guys,
So I have always been a protection paladin with Ret as off spec. This xpac Im going Ret for keys. Im 406 IL with a solid weapon and knowledge of the the rotation and spec. My problem is that I start out super hot on boss fights, I spike up to almost 50k DPS, but I level out to somewhere between 18 and 22k depending on the fight.
My two questions are…
- Is this just how it goes? Or am I doing something wrong.
- Is there a trick to AoE? I get my burst to like 150k plus on reaping but its a waste when I get one shot after bubble ends.

Youre going to be top dps with wings, and bottom without wings. Ret is all about timing your wings. You can pop it each reaping if you want to have bigger over all numbers, but that’s usually a waste. Generally if youre on a high enough key you can get a wings each boss, besides that just try to keep in mind what kind of pulls will be made later. As for dying with wings, ret makes higher threat than any other dps by alot, as far as I can tell. Take the talent that reduces bubble cd and make sure you pop it or bop before you go ham with wings.
Thank you for the feedback. Yeah i like the spec a lot and it is a lot of fun to play i just wish i felt more powerful when i didnt have my wings up.
Depending on your gear crusade may not be the best for you, id suggest checking out raidbots and sim your character.
Also if you have any logs you can go to “WoWAnalyzer” for a detailed breakdown of any mistakes or things you’re doing correct!
You can always try Inquisition or DP. They’re both perfectly viable and give you a much more active rotation when AW / Crusade is down.
well hot damn, I must be doing something very wrong to only be sitting around 12-14k without wings.
