Retribution aura

Possibly the most worthless Paladin aura created (current iteration).

Fellow raider: What do you bring to the raid
Paladin: I hope someone dies so I can avenge them for a few seconds

Obviously there’s more that a paladin brings to a raid, but the idea of Blizzard making one of only 3 raid auras a buff that only helps the person being buffed, and only if someone dies seems counter intuitive. Why not keep it as a talent, and give us an aura that helps the entire raid?

I thought it was pretty dumb when I leveled this guy.

I think its pretty epic if used correctly, when you know someones about to go down u switch to it and get a quick buff. Its the only aura that could actually have an impact on the outcome of a fight especially in M+

This made me laugh! :joy:

I imagined the Paladin watching a raid member’s health getting close to zero…

HEAVY BREATHING

Raid Member Dies

“Finally! I will avenge you!” /charge

I agree. But I think a better idea would be a CD ability that when activated triggers upon death of another player, lasts x many seconds. Then maybe give us a resistance buff, or something else that passively helps the raid.

What this made me think of

In pvp, if your fighting on the roads with the other crappers instead of playing objectives, it’s pretty good for those sweet damage numbers.

If it was a permanent stacking buff every time a raid member died up until the last person and the paladin was 25’ tall and a giant glowing beacon of vengeance doing 200% increased damage THAT would be awesome.

The current version of Retribution Aura isn’t a proper aura as far as I’m concerned. An Aura is supposed to provide a beneficial effect to all nearby allies.

It should go back to being a passive and Retribution Aura should be what it used to be that makes attackers take X holy damage anytime they attacked an ally within 40 yards.

Maybe if it was off the GCD this argument would hold weight, but investing a GCD on the chance someone dies is not even close to feasible.

Wait - auras are on the GCD?

It sure seemed like it to me but I might be wrong. This is a new toon. If its not on the GCD then I should probably start using it :open_mouth:

oh i agree it should be off the gcd

This is a random BG spell, and that’s about it.

I am fine with that.

I think auras work fine on the GCD, the whole “Gain avenging wrath when an ally dies” just shouldn’t be an aura. Auras should benefit your allies.

It would be epic if it was “All party/raid members gain avenging wrath for 5 seconds on party/raid member death”

I wonder why they didn’t make Ret Aura like in Vanilla/Classic: everyone buffed reflects some small percentage of damage back to their attacker. Just make it not stack (which Auras still don’t AFAIK) and it’d hardly be OP.

That makes a lot more sense. I would shorten it to like 2 seconds, but an actual ‘aura’ of buff that you apply to your party/raid makes way more sense than an aura… that only impacts you.

I personally enjoy asking PuGs to please die for my logs.

But seriously, it’s going to feel pretty bad for retribution players when the highest parses can only be reached by making intentional sacrifices when AW is up.
