Reticle-Based Spells @target

So there’s a way to make macros to cast reticle-based spells @target and @focus without @cursor or @player.

How do you guys feel about this? I’m not sure if it’s a bug or a change. It seems like it’s a bug to me because it only works when you have Self Cast Key in the options set as the modifier in the macro.

I think this would be a wonderful change for pve accessibility. If they could make it even easier to do this in pve, that would be great imo. I don’t have opinions about this in pvp but it seems like a free win for Blizz to make this an option in pve.

I am a big fan of the @target idea for these reticle-based spells. I’d also like an @mouseover target for dropping spells like healing rain from hp frames.

I was testing the macros on my mage last night via blizzard. I didn’t think to test it for @mouseover.

This would be a nice qol change for me. I mostly play with a controller and reticle-spells can sometimes be a pain to aim. But I doubt it’s intended and am guessing it’ll get broken at some point without so much as a peep from Blizz.

It does seem like a bug but it is my hope that we can show blizzard that this bug is actually an improvement and that they should add @target, @mouseover and @focus to the game for these spells.

I always enjoyed in SWTOR where I just needed to use a reticle-based ability twice while I had a target selected for it to be used right on the target.

This never used to be possible so I believe it’s a bug that will soon be rectified.

It can be a nice QOL change but it isn’t suitable for all scenarios. Mainly LoS could really mess this up as the best part about reticle-based spells is being able to drop them on the corner and have it splash around to hit your enemies.

For example in HoA after you kill the 2nd boss you run into that small room and the tank usually pulls all the mobs out into the first area, well if you’ve tab targeted a mob still behind the wall your spell wont be going off.

 At least I assume it still takes LoS into consideration.

With that said. They did highlight a big issue:

Have you ever dropped your Wild Spirits, Earthquake or AMZ on the ceiling or the random lamp post in Halls of Atonement?

This does happen all too often, and it’s really annoying.

moving and AOEing @Cursor or manual placement is super annoying. HOA or MISTS for example is annoying.

I hope they can @Target/@Focus with this and have it not interact with players/pvp pets/etc. That should fix the obvious main pain point about this uninteded bug.

My guess is we should see a hot fix for this popping soon

I think this is a bug.

If intended, it’s a bug with having to set up self-cast and using a modifier.

Otherwise, the whole thing is a bug.

Didn’t @player already work with spells like this? I know I had a macro for @player in the DH sigil for the aoe fire spell. Not sure I had anything like this set up for @target though. Maybe it didn’t work for everything, until this.

Previously @target did not work for Reticle-Based Spells. It’s definitely a bug but I think the bug gives us the opportunity to use @target macros for Reticle-Based Spells and test it out.

I don’t care if it is a fix or a bug, If it will keep me from putting my Efflo on the ceiling I am all for it.

Interesting but I don’t have any use for this .

I think a test is in order.

This thread should be reported as violating TOS (discussing an exploit).

If it gets removed, we’ll know if this is intended behavior or if this is truly a bug.

@mouseover Efflo on a melee target would be amazing. Bonus points if you could @PlayerName.

I swear there used to be a glyph in MoP that made it targetable on a player. I wasn’t maining druid back then though so maybe I am on crack.

@player and @cursor always worked. Blizzard said forever that they weren’t going to allow @target/focus/whatever because it made reticule-placed spells OP.

I really hope this is a feature and not a but. It’d make trap placement a ton simpler.

Sad to see this removed. After blizzard making a big fuss about ableism in their new code of conduct, the second a change like this that can dramatically improve quality of life for differently abled players is implemented it gets silently removed, with absolutely nothing said about it. Guess blizz doesn’t care very much after all for those that are differently abled, pretty disgraceful.

They removed it?! Blizz, why?! This was such a great change… :pensive:
